OMG - one of my favorite singers ever, very unique and recognizable voice. I'll be on a Grass Roots binge for a couple of days  .

RIP Rob

I saw him twice in recent years at our 60s rock band festivals. (I THINK 2009 and 2010)

The first time he was fine, the next year he was clearly messed up. Stroke was a good guess, but we didn't know. For all we knew, he coulda had a hip replacement. He still sounded good that time even though he was messed up.

Last time I saw him (I think it was about 10 years ago), he had just recently had a double hip replacement - he came out and sang the whole show on crutches and still sounded really good. I think he's been in a lot of pain for a long time - such a shame.

I think by this time when he looked bad it was something more than just a bad hip. His face was all messed up and the other guys in the band looked like they were about to piss themselves they were so worried he was gonna fall off the stool he sat on to sing. He still brought it vocally though.

This is the show I saw where he looked bad. Admittedly, the band is chiming in a lot in the BG vox, but he still sounded good. You can also see him doing his best to perform and be a showman, even though he could hardly stand for 5 seconds or move his one arm. Great performer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbtwGovirso .

Godfrey Townsend, renowned session guitarist, on co-lead guitar.

Cool, thanks. My brother has a DVD of that and I saw it once. Pretty solid just a couple years ago. The aging process is not kind.
