I saw his post on Facebook about it. He thinks he hemorrhaged his vocal cord. That doesn't sound good.

This could wreck the Frontiers show I'm supposed to see next week. Hope J is alright.

It's only a matter of time before we see a similar statement from Arnel. They are playing WAY too many dates this year.

I'll just have to step up and fill in on these missing dates the way Soto once did.

They're playing the same amount of dates they did in 2008. The difference being this time around there won't be any three nights in a row shows and they'll step down if necessary.

How many? People said that before and he sounded great coming into this tour in SA. I think it was good they took a year off, no matter losing the DSB steam.

They're playng fifty shows in 90 days. It's no big deal. Throw in the overseas dates from South America and Europe and it's about the same as 2008, not even 80 shows.
Remember, Journey averaged 120 shows a year during their hayday and that was without touring Europe.
Now days, being able to step down and not having to sing three nights in a row, Deen helping out and shorter setlists because of two openers, this shouldn't be that difficult.

Hemmorhaging a vocal cord sounds painful. Hopefully, it will be minimal downtime, not serious. Maybe time to go down a half step.

But Arnel is 43 and still a hard catalogue. But they do seem to take precautions and his voice sounded really strong on the album, so he seems to recover after touring. And Deen singing two songs does help, definitely, and stepping down when need be.

Looking back, 50 year old Kelly Hansen has been singing all year round for Foreigner over the last six years and still sounds great. Outstanding reviews from Europe this tour. Actually better reviews than Journey overall.
Taking care of yourself is the key.

85 official dates this year. But if you throw in the handful of private shows and the soon-to-be-added shows that I *think* will trickle in, you're somewhere around 100.

84, as one of the German gigs got canceled and they would have had the same number in 2008 if Arnel hadn't ran out gas. Do you think they're going to add even more shows when they're supposed to start the next tour in February? Wow, I guess they really are going for broke. The album's a bust but frying your singer just seems insane.

I'm guessing that about 5 more shows will be added. Looking at the tour schedule, I see one point where there's a week without a show and a couple of 3 and 4 day gaps. I suspect that they will try to fill those in and the end result will be about 90 official shows and about 3-5 private shows. Man, I just noticed that the back to back to back shows in September (16-18) is gonna be a motherfucker.

Glad I get to see them Monday in Omaha.

When I saw them in Sept 2008, Arnel was gassed but still singing clearly and in key. I hope you don't get him stepped down at that point. If you are close to the stage you probably wouldn't notice but if you're on a terrace like I was at the Greek Theater, the sound is so clear, you'll know if it's not right.

Yep. The Bigs have been world touring all year too, and EM's also 50. They still have US dates to go then back to Europe again, nowhere near done. And getting outstanding reviews all around. And besides Eric breaking an arm, they are still going strong, especially considering all the travel the boys are putting on, hell in the space of just a few days they played overseas, flew back to US to play the M3 and then right back for some European shows. MB's early catalogue isn't the easiest to sing either. LOL and at least Arnel doesn't have the added task of singing over powerhouses Gilbert and Sheehan.

I think it'd be awesome if Jeremey played the Journey 2001 dvd on a big screen behind the stage and lipped to it!

J if you're out there reading I hope you get better soon man. Cut the fuckin cigarettes and take care of yourself as best as you can on the road. Sometimes these things are uncontrollable but you gotta do everything in your power to keep those pipes in top shape.

His latest status update said he's starting total vocal rest today and seeing a specialist at Duke on Monday.

Thank you for the well wishes. I know I don't post here anymore, but I do come by a few times a week and follow the Journey discussions.
For me, most of the people here that I have grown to be friends with are on Facebook now and so it's easy to keep up with everyone there. But for those of you that aren't on FB and are interested in what's going on, I won't know anything until I get to the Dr on Monday.
My fear is that I hemorrhaged a vocal cord during the show last week...I had already been pretty gassed by doing 3-4 shows in a row with 2-3 days off for the past 2 months (I was at home for about 4 days total last month). The stress of being on the road so much and a few technical setbacks that we've had led to lack of sleep and rest, and increased smoking, and it really was just a perfect storm. I got hazed during the intro to "Message Of Love" last week, as someone had moved a haze machine during the set break and it was aimed directly at my face. After a verse or two I knew immediately that something had changed in my voice, but pushed through the show just the same.
After resting for about 4 days, I went in for soundcheck at Disney Saturday night and found out that nothing had gotten better. We had 7 nights in a row scheduled, and had to cancel after the second show.
I won't know the status of my voice or of any upcoming shows on our schedule until I get into my voice doc on Monday, so it's nearly impossible to say what is going to happen in the near future.
In the meantime I'm not speaking & not smoking, and just going to spend the weekend finishing details on the music side of my upcoming CD and maybe catch a few movies.
Thanks again to those of you who've expressed well wishes. Best to everyone, and have a great weekend.
Jeremey

It's like being an Olympic athlete/Formula 1 Driver and having no fitness program and your diet is shakes, hamburgers, fries, Pizza, dope and booze.
