Bands that miss their guitarist.

REO.
Ever since Gary departed, I can not get into them at all. Even live, it's like they're missing a part of their soul.

I won't even talk about Triumph.

Exactly, he represented the only testosterone in the band.
They've had a few really good tunes in the 20+ years he's been gone. That's not enough to keep them relevant though. At least Kevin hasn't run out of bleach money.

I can't get past Cronin's shitty voice.

I really like Dave Amato both as a person and a guitarist but it was the combination of Richrath and Cronin's voice & songwriting that made that band.

REO was great until High Infidelity,

After that Cronins voice got higher, like a little girl screaming, and the ROCK just vanished.
Dont even get me started with the chicken , cow, his brother and and illegial allien album w the dianne warren song.

Def Leppard - Steve Clark. Their songwriting has suffered immensely since his untimely death.

That album actually has several hard rocking songs on it. Can't tell you which song is the Diane Warren song but the others are pretty good.

Boston has missed Tom Scholz...I mean, they've released a total of 13 songs in the past 16 years...which is slightly above his prior output of 38 between '76 and '94.

I'm sure I'm alone on this, but I really miss Kee Marcello playing with Europe. His guitar work on the "Out Of This World" album is my favorite guitars on any album... EVER! That album is my favorite album of all time, and the guitars kick ASS!!! :D

I thought Pete Willis was sorely missed too, even though they did keep his contributions on Pyromania.

Triumph is again in a state of stasis. They only released one album without Rik, anyway, so it's kind of a non-issue.

I hate to be the bearer of bad 411, but Def Leppard started suckin' while Steve was still in the band. I don't listen to anything post-Hysteria. Not worth my time.

Let's stick to the original point of this thread - guitarists. The song-writing function is a different issue. For example, Giant is missing songwriting - not necessarily guitars.

The most recent Giant album is incredible. I like all but about one track on that one.

Even "Hysteria" was a step back, in my opinion, but at least they still sounded like a hard rockin' band for the most part. Can't say that for any new stuff releast post '87, though.

You know what? I goofed. I meant to write "I don't listen to anything post-Pyromania." Because while I did listen to Hysteria when it first came out, it really was the beginning of the end for DL as a "real" rock band.

IMO, of course.

it pales in comparison to the two real Dann Huff albums. If you like the new one, you need Last of the Runaways and Time to Burn IMMEDIATELY.

I have both of those. I like this last one just as well.

I thought it was very much by the numbers for the most part. Nothing wrong with performances (and I'm a fan of Terry Brock all the way back to Strangeways), but the songs just fell flat--the title track to name one.

I'm a recent Giant fan, within the last year or so, so I'm not considering any of the legacy crap as far as Dan Huff being in, out, etc. I go the album really having no expectation to like it considering the track record of bands like them putting out marginal bullcrap recently. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it so much.

Pyromania, to me, was Def Leppard's last great album. Aside from Love Bites, I can't stand that pop/dance/rock garbage they did on Hysteria. Armageddon It is pure dog shit plain and simple.

I tend not to care either, as long as the end product sounds good, and tends to sound like the band itself. Something about this one just didn't click songwise overall. There are some good songs, but a fair amount of filler for me. Not sure anyone would figure out it is Giant either if you didn't tell them either. Glad you enjoyed it though.

If you haven't already, Terry Brock has a pretty decent catalog on his own, and has recorded some VERY good cds along the way. Most of it veers much closer to Journey than the Giant cd.

And that was also the last album with any input from Pete Willis.
