Sorry I know this isn't animals loss anonymous. I am just sooo mad. I feel like if I had recognized the signs he might still be here. tO THose of you taht are pet owners. I may be grasping straws, but does your vet give you a warning sheet regarding sedation procedures and after care? Like what to look out for? I didn;t get anything other than to say look out for swelling. Even mild sedation is serious....

It's been a while since I had a cat put under anesthesia, but when my cat (now deceased) was diagnosed with cancer last summer, I got a very thick packet explaining his diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis. They even had me sign a form stating that I understood he would probably only live three to six months (he made it almost six months). I think it all depends where you take your pets. I took my cat to a full-service animal hospital with a critical care unit, staff oncologists, and 24-hour emergency service.

I have had cats pretty much all of my life and never had problems when my cats needed to be sedated. My last cat had dental surgery a few times. It was a long time ago, but I just remember him being a bit groggy. They kept him at the clinic under observation for a while before letting me take him home.

I know it can't help you now with Mya, but always be sure to ask a lot of questions. You're paying the vet clinic and they are providing you a service. I just called the vet yesterday to make appointments for my two new cats. It was just for routine stuff like vaccinations and dental cleanings, but I asked the girl a number of questions I had. I will think of anything that I want to ask the vet on Tuesday when I take them, and I will be sure to ask them all.

I had a very tough time when I had to get my cat put to sleep. I got him from the shelter when he was five months old and he lived with me for 13 years. He was as faithful a companion as I could have ever hoped for. He was sick for a long time and I had time to prepare for the end and to say goodbye. Much different from your situation.

If you think you have issues with your vet clinic, don't feel badly about finding a new one. Ask around. Get recommendations. Try to find one close to your home, if possible. Mine is about three miles away. It was a mile away from my old place. If you're going to have this in the back of your mind any time you bring your other cat to the vet, it's not going to work. You have to trust your cat's vet just like you need to trust your own doctors.

You should ask your vet if you could speak to him or her about what happened to Mya. Ask for copies of Mya's records, and if you can find another vet who will review them for free or for a reasonable cost, please do so. If that is going to help give you closure, you should do so.

If you have any questions or just want to vent, feel free to PM me.

The panting could indicate an oxygen shortage in his body.

That could have been a result of the pain meds - they supress respiration.

Sorry for your loss.

I pray for a peaceful passing for you ange - and peace and comfort for you.
