No disrespect to any pet lovers, but I just don't get it. Sorry Scary.

I see people on my friends list on Facebook that absolutely flood the page with "This dog will be euthanized at some certain time if someone doesn't adopt it" and so on.

I look at these posts and am completely baffled. How in hell can you put this much energy into worrying about what some dog's fate is going to be when there are people in the world that need help. Beats the hell out of me.

Rick, people become attached to animals because they react to them, are loyal and are living-feeling creatures. They are also helpless for the most part and because man has domesticated them they are totally dependent on us. These aren't electronics or things that can just be bought and thrown away or cast from one's heart. You will probably always be baffled about it because its not something placed on your heart. Pets become part of your family.

Some of us do not have kids....as I stated in the other thread about my Cat, Bibi.....she was "my Girl".
I felt like I lost something that was very close and dear to me, for 13 years.

Yes; I know she wasn't "human", but she still meant the World to me.

I'll echo the pet lover's sentiment when it comes to dogs. They're obedient (when trained properly), can save lives, great company, protectors, and they do become part of the family. There's a camaraderie with a dog, especially hunting dogs and big dogs that can fetch/play outside. Cats, on the other hand, are filthy creatures with absolutely no fucking brains. They smell, cannot be taught and are a general nuisance. I actually took some pleasure watching the neighbor's black lab tear a big wandering cat to shreds last week. The fucker walked around with that dead cat in his mouth all day and growled if you came near him. Fuck, I just wanted to congratulate him!

That has to be one of those most thoughtless posts I've ever seen on here, coming from someone who I actually thought was one of the nicer guys on here . My dogs are just as much a part of my family as the humans are - I've had one or more dogs since I was a little girl and losing them is very hard. If you're not an animal lover - fine - but don't knock those who are. They can't just be replaced by spending another '25 bucks' at the pet store.

I gave her my sympathies. What else can I do? I get a red ass when people put more emphasis on animals than on humans. That's bugged me for a while.

In Rick's defense, he is a very nice guy. But apparently not a big pet person. Rick I have 4 cats, I would personally only want maybe one or two, but my husband has a soft spot for abandoned pets. I have told him this is it. No more! LOL
I do love animals, but I also give to help people who are impoverished. So I guess you can love both. I have lost wonderful pets in my day, but as a country girl, I am quite able to deal with a loss. I have had many pets through out my life. I get sad but I handle it. Their life spans are not as long as ours, and I have come to terms with that. I just wished people would be more responsible with their pets, get them spayed or neutered. Overpopulation can be avoidable. We gave away the kittens for the momma cat that adopted us. We will get her spayed real soon now. She is stuck indoors till then.
As for your last question, depends on the person and the dog.

Disclosure: I love animals. Lot's of them are mighty tasty. The domesticated ones, which I have never eaten, are fun. We have several in our house. When Debbie and Neelee are gone, I take very good care of them. To me, they are amusement. nothing else. I will never find one of them as important as a family member.

Nothing in the world pisses me off as much as when someone harms children or animals. Obviously I also don't want to see good adult humans harmed either. But there are also a load of shit-bag adult humans.

I care far more for animals than for shit-bag humans.

What would you rather do? Spend $1500 dollars on your siclky favorite cat, or spend $15 on a new one at a pet store?

I have a friend that has no regard for animal life. One time he told me that the night before he had hit a deer with his car, and that his car sustained a little bit of damage. I asked him if the deer was killed that he knew of, or if he thought that the deer wasn't badly injured. He angrily and loudly replied "I don't give a fucking rats ass what happened to the deer, I'm pissed about my car." I told him that whereas I certainly wouldn't be happy about the damage to my car if I hit a deer, that I would be more upset about the deer being injured. A car is just metal, rubber, plastic and other crap, it's not a living, breathing, feeling creation.
