What are the best brands of Blu-Ray players? How much do they usually cost? Any specific features that I should look for in a Blu-Ray player? How many years should a good player last? I know that the more you use it the faster it will wear-out. But in general, how long should one last?

Get a Sony Playstation 3 , recently reduced to $249. One of the best bluray players on the market with 160Gb HDD and ability to do many other things ( copy your music and photos to HDD , surf the web & watch YouTube on your tv and of course gaming )

couple of tips...

stay away from Magnavox....they tend to have problems with BD-Rs (aka recordable Blu-Rays)

BIG POINT....make sure you have the ability to upgrade the firmware one way or the other. One that supports online access is the best. Some way to stick a USB memory stick in it would suffice otherwise. You may likely have to upgrade the memory/firmware to be able to play some BluRays. You'll see the notice on Hollywood movies when you play them. Be aware of this.

When you get it, check the settings. Most players are set NOT to play at optimum resolution. You will have to set whatever your tv will support (720p, 1080i, 1080p). Also, expect to buy a HDMI cable if you want optimum resolution. Some may include this, others won't.

Buy a decent brand name one, and it should last for a while. Buy a no-name thing and who knows. To some extent, you get what you pay for.

If you have to buy the HDMI cable separate, you can get a good Monster HDMI cable for cheap on Ebay. The stores soak you on those.

meritline.com they constantly have sales on these for 1-2 dollars a piece(and suprisingly really good quality) . I have 6-7 of these and they all cost me a buck a piece.

I looked and off sale they are 3.59 shipped and they're 6ft long as well, not the smaller 3 ft ones, very thick cable well worth it for 3.59 but if you get on their mailer they have those 1 dollar deals or 2 for 3 dollars all the time.
