Does Satch get to stretch out any on this one or is it more groove-oriented like the debut?

I respect everyone in that band as musicians, but too much jam band stuff and not enough hooks.

Just read a blurb where SH says that they wanted to avoid the sophomore blues, by skipping the II title and going for III. But the first thing I thought of, was that VanHalen is in their lineage, or vice versa, and VHIII was a disaster. I guess what I'm suggesting is, if there's some cosmic relationship there, this record is ironically doomed.

I agree, they have all done their hit records, now they just seem to be joking around and fucking off. It doesn't appeal to me musically at all. But I am glad they are having fun.

Just listened to the first 5 songs and while I found nothing fantastic, "different devil" and "up next" are not bad. I guess my problem with Sammy is since he left VH his song writing has just come nowhere near what he was doing during his tenure with Van halen.
I have listened to entire cds of his solo collection and just threw them out or gave them away because I knew I would never listen to them again. The hooks are just lacking. Sometimes I can't believe Sammy was the same guy from Van halen (so many great songs with Van halen...so many stinkers without them)

I think the album is a great AOR album. Satch is everywhere. LOVE THAT!! I agree Sammy's lyrics aren't what they used to be, but this band sounds like they are having all kinds of fun.
Watched the live webcast last night. What a great idea! They also did a Q & A after the show and they got a dig in on Neal. Kinda wentlike this:
HOST: The next question is from Neal...
SAMMY: Schon??
There was great laughter in the room
MICHAEL ANTHONY: We all know where he is tonight!!
Laughter!!
Then Sammy was giving Satriani an elbow like he was trying to get him to say something but he didn't.
Anyway...good CD. I think it is better than the first one.

Just watched the re-broadcast. Very well done. Some of the songs were a bit weaker than others, but I really enjoyed it. Kenny Arnoff does a damn fine Chad Smith impersonation, and is a good choice for the tour.

The album is IMO hit and miss. Mike is all over the album in terms of sound. Out of all the albums I've heard with Mad Anthoney on them this one is the one where you can hear his bass work and vocs the best.
Some of the songs are very good, some are kinda lame. It's a nice sophmore effort from the band and I hope it sells.
They should release Different Devil as the 2nd single.

I thought Marching to Mars was great!

Is that the cd with "both sides now"? if it is i could only get into that song and 1 other, the rest just became a sign of what to expect from Sammy and his solo cds

Very good stuff, but terrible running order. All round the wrong way. 2 weakest songs open the album.

The more I listen to the album the more I like it.
