MelodicRockFest 3

PostPosted: Mon Oct 03, 2011 8:13 pm

People keep asking me about another MelodicRockFest.

2012 is an anniversary year for the site (15th). Would be great to attempt another show.

BUT

For MelodicRockFest 3 to occur in 2012 I would need major sponsors. Anyone interested in being a sponsor or chasing ones for me - speak up!

Very simple,

You have 46000 members here, not all active of course. do a LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION FEE of $10
Even if 10% of us pay you this, you will end up with $46000 which is more than you had before or after any of the two previous MRFs :)

Can't do lifetime--then there would be no 2013, 2014, 2015.

10% of any group usually carries the load. I think 10% participation is pushing it. maybe 5% so that would be 23,000

I think annual subscription fee is reasonable--we get a lot out of this place.

have different levels of sponsorship--aka like our status.

$10/ year won't break anyone once a year. that would be above and beyond regular donations.

we could sponsor our own MRFest!! we own this place for crying out loud!!! oops. I'm am definitely not breathing......

it would help to get some big name bands to perhaps appear at a lesser fee for a bigger crowd draw. #wishful thinking but it could happen

If drew can get these 5 bands for a reasonable price, then he will sell out , but he has to have a venue (like HOB Chicago) so he can sell 3000 tix ;)

Whitesnake
Europe
Mr Big
Winger
Treat

The of course throw in few acts from MRF 1&2 like Toby Hitchcock, 7th Heaven and few others like The Poodles , WET and Frontiers.

$12/year($1 month) should cover the startup...but make your decision to coincide with the new site/messageboard....and make it so you can't even browse the board without paying.

$10/year is extremely reasonable for the entertainment and info we get from this place.......could even make it $20. Before some people complain............just drop a few of their specialty coffees a year.

'Frontiers'? Screw that...get Kelty and Escape.

Drew, what is your goal with this festival? If your ONLY desire is to make scratch, get the same old tired acts. If your goal is to promote some of the, yet, unknown bands. You should only need TWO first tier acts to headline each night...and you really should try and get some of the leading european acts to show up...exposure in this country should be tantamount. All the talk about the genre dying, yet all that play these festival are dinosaur acts we've seen 100x...please don't perpetuate the madness.

Bah, can't be much more than Chicago........tons of music fans in So Cal. Travel prices have gone up, LOL and travel funds have gone down.........east coast travel is waaaaay expensive for me from west Can.

Hell, if he booked something around NAMM time, he could make a killing......so many musicians and fans would be in So Cal already. This coming January is too soon prolly but next NAMM Jan/2013 would give time.

I'm with Deb, in that it should be held in LA. Drew's travel charges are what killed him last time, and he's probably far more likely to make money if he can coax a few acts into playing for free and they might just do so if they're able to travel home from the shows. And with the music connections that he has in LA I wouldn't doubt that some of those guys know of a major radio station that they could get on board. That said, you have to get the right acts. Quit thinking about what you like or who has what you perceive as talent, and get bands that draw ... and only those bands. Night Ranger, Mr Big and Linsdey Buckingham would draw well I suspect. And think about crossing over, too. Bands like The Offspring and Buckcherry (if affordable) would probably help bring in huge crowds.

I gotta imagine Lindsey is above the budget. He's a pretty big name. And, would he really fit in with the likes of the typical bands at MR Fests?

I disagree. That suggestion is a recipe for making money and selling out the genre. If Drew's goal is to sell the MR genre out, great idea...if it is too further the genre's exposure, rotten idea.

Failure, in my mind, was due to small venue and inadequate marketing/advertising. The 12-hour days were a mistake too...but that was after the fact. I had a great time at II, but at the same time...questioned the lineup. Too many low-level acts. Not enough newer QUALITY bands. Strikeforce? Talon? CoT?

That being said, Dan....you don't need a bill of 5 supergroups to be a success. BTW, when you actually learn something about the MR/AOR genre, let us know....

Get Soto and Augeri. Telling you with the Journey contingent that surfs this site - that combo works. Frontiers is also a good idea.

Not sure about sponsors, but the $10 idea from forum members is something I would contribute to as well.

Unknown bands would bankrupt the site once and for all.

I have balanced the first 2 festivals with some new names for good emasure because I do support new talent and they need outlets to play. You saw the line-up for MRF2 - and I only got 500 people each day.

That said - I don't believe I rolled out the same old dinosaurs at all. No LA Guns, Warrant, etc...

Please don't speculate what killed me. What DID kill me was lack of fans turning up. Simple. The rest of the budgetting was spread across all manner of expenses. NONE of it was cheap.

Those were the one I counted as no show at your Fest ;)

I think the key is an inexpensive venue combined with heavy promotion.

Can I just add something please.

I'm not looking for advice on what went wrong at MRF1 or 2. NOTHING went wrong.... Not enough people came. Simple.

There are things that could be done to improve that situation perhaps, but the reason for this post was for one thing only - to see if anyone with connections had any interest in being a sponsor or helping look for one.

Cheers.
