Drew's travel charges are what killed him last time, and he's probably far more likely to make money if he can coax a few acts into playing for free and they might just do so if they're able to travel home from the shows. And with the music connections that he has in LA I wouldn't doubt that some of those guys know of a major radio station that they could get on board. That said, you have to get the right acts. Quit thinking about what you like or who has what you perceive as talent, and get bands that draw ... and only those bands. Night Ranger, Mr Big and Linsdey Buckingham would draw well I suspect. And think about crossing over, too. Bands like The Offspring and Buckcherry (if affordable) would probably help bring in huge crowds.
I disagree. That suggestion is a recipe for making money and selling out the genre. If Drew's goal is to sell the MR genre out, great idea...if it is too further the genre's exposure, rotten idea.
Failure, in my mind, was due to small venue and inadequate marketing/advertising. The 12-hour days were a mistake too...but that was after the fact. I had a great time at II, but at the same time...questioned the lineup. Too many low-level acts. Not enough newer QUALITY bands. Strikeforce? Talon? CoT?
That being said, Dan....you don't need a bill of 5 supergroups to be a success. BTW, when you actually learn something about the MR/AOR genre, let us know....
