"if i continue to pick up everything before i have properly conquered these problems and nipped them in the bud. i will be totally and utterly fucked. singing is literally my life, its my hobbie, my love, my freedom and now my job. I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or i risk damaging my voice forever."

Another 100,000 albums sold this week, the girl just keeps on rolling tour or not.

She's got a helluva voice. Rolling in the Deep is one kickass song............love it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeuS-wK8UZU LOL great youtube comment under this performance of hers on Letterman "No gimmicks, no dancers, no shitty autotune, just talent."

Too bad, hopefully this can be fixed.

Lots of people in the same boat, yet known bands with good music can't sell albums......go figure.

Adele is the top singer/album now & she has real talent. I hope she recovers quickly & completely...love her songs...this one is beautiful: "Someone like you" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAc83CF8Ejk

(unfortunately, it looks like she is a smoker...that can't be good for the vocal cords)

If you haven't heard of Adele, especially after hanging here and reading
G~boys sales updates etc., you are in denial!!
She's an incredible singer/songwriter ...yes, she writes/co~writes her own stuff!
She's very real, she's very talented and the WORLD knows who
she is.
Just because she's not a member of the J~boyz, steveo 6-6-6, does not
mean she's unknown and does not have good music.

Agree completely with you Deb. Helluva voice indeed. If I had to describe her voice for someone who has never heard her I'd say she's a cross between early Grace Slick, Amy Winehouse, and Alana Miles - at least that's what I hear.

Good call, right on the money with that mix, can definitely hear that.

A definite talent, but while she's taking a break I'd love it if they'd give that damn song of hers a rest for a while. I've heard it every time the radio's been on, for a few months now. Expecting the soul-sucking club mix any day now, if it hasn't already hit. Overplay is a sure way to burn people out on a good new artist.

Bought this CD for my gf expecting it to be horrible club music. Ended up pleasantly surprised. She's a nice talent. Sorry to hear about her voice.

My favorite song on the disc is probably the cover of The Cure's "Love Song". Didn't expect that, and it was a pleasant surprise.

I can never believe it when I see people who sing for a living and also smoke, not to mention her weight could also be an issue. That being said, she has a great voice.

Although I do remember seeing an interview with Ronnie James Dio saying that he thinks alcohol is actually harder on the vocal chords than smoking is. Not sure if there's any science backing that up, though.

Day to day, perhaps - dehydration leads to a dry throat. Going out on stage with a brutal hangover and very dry throat could lead to an off vocal night. But I don't buy that drinking is worse than smoking in the long run.

Think of how a long-term smoker sounds by the time he/she reaches age 50+. It's brutal.

Did Dio smoke? It sounds like some rationalization for a habit he knows was insanely dumb.

I thought that Adele was a heavy drinker, one of those Eastenders who likes to put down a pint or three every night. Mix that in with smoking and it's probably not good for her career.

There's a former singer for a certain band that is proof of that.

Tobacco smoke causes symptoms similar to inflammation. The nicotine and tar limits lung capacity. Alcohol is a drying agent. The vocal folds is not a pair of muscles, but two folds of mucous membranes found in the larynx (voice box). The muscles of the the larynx just regulates or fine tunes the pitch of the sound. So when people say you can train the voice like any other muscle, then that's just bullshit. Ones voice is genetically pre-determined through the size of the vocal folds, vocal tract, shape of the chest etc.

Unless you're morbidly obese, then it won't be an issue at all.

Marc Anthony is a heavy smoker and his voice is still fantastic. Though when he did Faithfully he did have to dodge the ending.

He is also a man. Women's voices, particularly sopranos, tend to go south much earlier in life. Hormones are a bitch.
