As well it should. Here's a tiny bit of trivia about the audio from the movie. It's not "winning bets in bars with this info" kind of trivia but hey, it's interesting nonetheless. After the opening musical montage, right before Scar speaks the first line of the movie, you see and hear his paw come down on a doomed mouse. That sound of his paw hitting the floor of the cave was the 5th bassiest sound in a movie at the time it was released.
This movie has a lot of memories attached to it by my family. Of course we took the kids to see it more than once at the theater when it came out and then when it was released on VHS, of course we bought it. At the time, we lived in a fairly nice, moderately large house (3700 Sq. Ft.) which had an enormous family room. I've always had decent audio equipment with lots of power, volume, and breadth. Our house became THE congregating spot for all the kids in the neighborhood because they could watch the movie "just like at the theater" they'd say. I gotta admit, that opening music montage does sound mighty impressive through the right A/V system especially when the elephants are walking by...... My kids must have seen the movie at least a hundred times over the years and I'll be damned if we didn't go see it together last week as a family for old time's sake. It literally brought a tear to my eye being back in the theater with my daughters sorta re-living a great, great memory form so many years ago now.
Never forget the first time I saw it and laughed my freaking ass off when a terrified Pumba says to Timon and Simba, "SHE'S GONNA EAT ME!!!"
