Couldn't have said it better myself. What a freaking embarrassment. :? They're also going to try to pass another useless stimulus bill and say it's to keep teachers, cops, and firefighters employed. That way when the republicans shoot it down because we can't afford any more debt, they're going to look like the assholes and look like they're against the common man. I'm so sick of politics and politicians. They all make me sick! :?

Interest rates remain very low - we can afford more debt. What we can't afford is the continuing vicious cycle of job loss, depressed tax revenues, and economic stagnation. Hunkering down and praying to the invisible hand of the free market is not a solution.

Are you nuts?? Consumer interest rates are low...the interest rates on our debt is anything but low. You know better than that. Just the interest payments on the US debt is $454 Billion!!!! The government only brings in $2.3 trillion...we eat up almost 20% just servicing the debt...that's fucking insane!

Foreigners keep buying up our debt. I'm not worried about it. Japan's debt-to-GDP ratio remains skyhigh and they are doing so-so. Those that think the economy will fix it itself are subscribing to an alternate fairy tale timeline of history. More tax cuts (like "Nine, nine, nine!") are not what the doctor ordered.

I don't think anyone thinks it's going to completely fix itself. We have to quit spending and start paying down on our debt in a major way.

There's nothing wrong with that, but it won't put people back to work, or create consumer demand.

No expert with politics whatsoever, but I always seem to side with the idea of paying down debt first.

You wont be suprised to find out that I dont agree.

Its only natural that if savers buy government bonds to cover government debt then there is naturally less money to be saved / invested elsewhere , which means that there is less investment money to be pumped in the private sector. If you are a lender looking for a customer to buy your money, and the government comes and buys it, you aren't going to bend over back wards to find other people (private entities) to go and buy that money. However, if the goverment wont take you money and yuou are banker, you will go out and agressively find another customer. (the alternative is just to shut down your finance business)

To take the discussion away from money. If you are farmer with 100 baskets of apples and you take your wagon into town and one big customer buys almost all of your apples, you aren't going to worry about finding another customer. If you have 5 basket left you will sell those five left over baskets a higher price than you would have normally done. Same thing applies to financiers. they dont look for customers for finaance offering attractive deals and new business partners . And what does get provided to the private sector does come at a higher price (even if it is historically low)

The crowding out of this alternative investment is what really kills an economy when a keynesian approach is followed.

This is one reason (just one reason) why we actually cant afford more goverment debt - (and why government spending wont put any one to work or improve the economy)

Me too and I am convinced that no one can fix this mess this county is in now.
