I was about to say the same thing. I don't seem to ever remember hearing about so many artists taking a plunge on stage as much as lately.

Well, the good news is that, regardless of what he falls off of, he can't get any fucking uglier.

Did anyone else notice that the best sounding part of the solo was the part when gravity was winning and shortly after the thud of him hitting the ground? Atrocious guitar playing.
Still love his 78 solo album though. New York Groove was one of my first favorite songs.

Horrendous guitar playing. Like "10-year-old in a Guitar Center plugged in to a full amp/cab stack on 11" bad. lol. and yes, I did notice that the fall triggered his best lick. But that's not saying much

They are getting too damn old to be teetering on the edge of anything. Hell at that age, they fall off sidewalks.

Ace has to be the worst famous guitarist on the planet. He just really sucks. I'm not trying to be a dick, but outside the studio, listen to the clips... he is freaking horrible, and his vocals are even worse. That solo when he fell was so shitty that I probably could have played it, and I haven't touched a guitar in years. I'm not a guitarist!! I remember thinking that when I was a kid, I thought he was the best guitarist on the planet. Kinda like I thought Peter Criss was the best drummer in the world. MAN was I delusional!!!

More people know his name than they do Neal Schon.
There is a reason why KISS has Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer though.

You weren't delusional, just blissfully ignorant. We all go through that. When I was a kid, I thought Alex Van Halen was the best drummer up to a point. That was before high school, and due to the limited exposure of rock bands I'd had.

And even more know Mick Mars' name. Is he better than Ace?

I'm still blissfully ignorant. Ace can still hit those opening chords on Deuce and I'm a kid again.

Steve Howe is better than Ace, Mars and Schon combined. Doesn't matter. Rather go see Ace.

Man, the fall was a mercy to my ears! He sounded like he was skinning a cat alive! Ear plugs nothing! Sound muted while watching him fall! He sucks!

Sorry AR I would rather listen to Schon. At least it would be good guitar. Ace is famous for why Kiss is famous. Makeup and being a band known to piss off parents. I lived during the KISS era too. But was never impressed with them live or with their music in general. I know your a big fan and all, but they are not on my top lists of great musicians. Showmen maybe. They put on a show for their crowd. But they have never been known for their prolific abilities on musical instruments. Mostly for their hype and makeup.

Steve Howe is NOT better than Schon. On a subjective level, his style really bugs me outside the Yes context. It's very choppy, and his guitar tone bugs me. On a more objective level, Neal is definitely every bit the technical guitarist Steve is. In their primes, Neal for sure. Even now, I'll take wanking Neal over choppy Howe. Howe was by far the weakest link when I saw Asia and Yes over the years.

Steve Howe is definitely the more versatile of the two. Yes, his tone has become irritatingly wafer-thin in recent years, but when that dude was on in the '70s & '80s, he was on. Listen to him rip it up on Drama by Yes. Listen to him diversify on Quantum Guitar. His Homebrew series of albums, which I'd only recommend to hardcore Howe fans, showcase another side of him.
Neal can rip it up, but his forte is rock, and that's what he's best at. Nothing wrong with that. I just think Steve Howe is a class of his own when it comes to playing guitar, alongside guys like Mike Keneally, Joe Bonamassa, Nils Lofgren, etc.

Neal Schon has never truly impressed me. Same solo over and over again. You really want to talk GREAT guitar players? Ritchie Blackmore and Lindsey Buckingham.
Neal Schon is good, but not well known for a reason. He never makes any top lists of rock guitarists.
As for Ace, all criticisms warranted but he influenced more people to pick up a guitar than Schon did or ever will.

Completely disagree.
Schon isn't good enough to get out of the shadow of his vocalists.
(Bye the way Neal, I hope you are reading this you little prick)
Also, I'm certainly not saying Ace is a great technical guitarist. He is better though than that awful youtube clip.

You want to know who I think is as good as Ritchie, but will never get his props? Buck Dharma.

Love the guitar playing at the end of Don't Fear The Reaper on the Extraterrestrial Live album.

I have to respectfully disagree with you to an extent Ed. Schon's not a household name, but Buckingham isn't either. The only thing those two have in common is that they're highly respected among their peers... But both of them were eclipsed in the public by their respective Stevies.

I don't completely disagree, but I just saw Lindsey sell out a 1,500 seat hall by himself. No way Schon could do that. Ace also tours solo successfully.
A Neal Schon solo tour would draw flies. Seriously, Journey could tour without Neal and no one would care.
