Thanks to all the MR guys and gals who served this great country of ours. Both past and present.

Tell me, do my MR friends wear a poppy as a symbol of remembrance on the 11th November every year - or is it just a British thing?

The money raised from the purchase of the Poppy badges/brooches goes to the Poppy Fund which helps veterans.
It was originally a charity for those who fought in World War 1 but it now helps those involved in all conflicts.

Also there's been a big debate over here about 'bling poppies' - are they disrespectful?
The poppy badge used to be just a red plain flower with a green leaf - plain but effective, but in recent years they have made some from red glitter paper and kind of show-bizzed them up.

And many people have said that is disrespectful.

What do we all think?
I'm thinking that as long as it is worn with true respect and gratitude, then a bit of glitter won't hurt.

My boyfriend disagrees.

He says it cheapens the poppy symbol.

They used to have them here, I have not seen them much, but I think that is more because I am working in school on V day. It is a paper flower not a sacred priceless piece of history, red glitter is not going to hurt anything if they sell and money is raised. If anything it might get some people to buy more for the cause. Maybe they can sell both and the people offended by sparkles can have their plain flower.

I bought both.
