When I was a little girl my parents had an 8-track Perry Como album. That's always been THE "sound" of Christmas for me. It probably has more to do with the memories associated with it than the actual music but it's still the music that defines Christmas for me.

I think you've just described what we ALL like about 80's music. It's not that it's the best music (okay, I'm already disagreeing with myself), but it's what we were doing when those songs were released that make us enjoy them so much. Nah... They really are the best songs ever.

I thought about buying Chicago's Christmas album a couple of days ago, but figured I'd better check it out on Itunes first to see if I like it. I still need to.

I just picked up Carole King's, Holiday Carole...I've always loved her voice.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to check them out. My Dad (who's 70) is coming here for the holidays, and I want to play some good, traditional tunes like I grew up with.

That's pretty much the only Elvis stuff I like... the Christmas stuff that is. I'll definitely be adding some of his stuff to the list. I'll also be adding some Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers songs in there. Bing Crosby, etc...

Remember the storybooks that came with the records you could play and read along? I had Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. It was truly Christmas when the tree went up, the Perry Como, Rudolph and Frosty came out and there was about 3 feet of snow on the ground.....those were the good 'ol days!

not sure of one in particular but the Mannheim Steamroller albums have to be up there somewhere. There are some brilliant takes on some well overplayed songs there.

YEP! And if you got your tree too early, it was so dry by Christmas that you didn't dare turn on the lights for fear it would go up in flames....remember when the only there were the big huge bulbs that got wicked hot when they'd been plugged in for awhile?

Dad used to decorate the house with those & I always ended up with a string of them under my bedroom window outside..so it looks like a neon flashiing sign all of Dec..but it was cool...

I'm old school, I love the classics, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, Elvis but my favorite is Christmas Island by Leon Redbone! I can practically feel like I'm in the tropics in a hammock sipping a cool drink while I watch the snow falling in the woods in my backyard. :D
