Has anyone here picked it up yet? Just wondering if it's worth laying down the money for it? I'm sure it has to be much better than the old dvd's I have, but just wonder what kind of a job they did in cleaning up the image?

Do you already own
Battlestar Galactica ('00s series) on DVD? If not, buy that first. What's the sense in giving Luca$$ your money again?

What's so funny? That would have IMPROVED the film.

A SERIOUS waste of your money.
Why don't you buy some Steven Seagal movies, instead? At least you'll watch ACTORS.

Apparently there's a fuckton of special features and deleted scenes, including an animatic of the original duel between Yoda and Sidious, not to mention new commentaries if you're interested in that sort of thing.
Which I am.

While she was hot as HELL, this boogie woogie 70's bullshit was retarded. You think THIS is acting, yet Star Wars was worse than Steven Stegal??? And by you, I didn't mean YOU Sean. I meant Versible. I don't get the fascination with this dance fever show.
Now can someone who BOUGHT the freaking collection please weigh in on the subject here???

Put down the bottle, dude. You're getting your shows mixed up. Those are stills from
Buck Rogers, not
BSG — '70s OR 2000s.
Your memory's already bad to start with. No need to add to the problem.

Blu-ray is going to look better 99% of the time regardless because you are going to get a higher resolution transfer. DVDs are 720×480 so they have to be upconverted to fill your 1080p screen, like blowing up a picture to a larger size were it isn't super clear.
I was thinking about not upgrading my Disney DVDs as I figured since they were animation, how much better could they look? What I found out was....
... that Snow White and all Disney animation up to The Rescuers Down Under (1990), was done on film. Sleeping Beauty in particular was shot on 70mm film, larger than typical theatrical 35mm film. So all of these films have detail that exceeds what even 1080p HDTV can show.
Blu-ray helps bring them that much closer to what they should really look like.
Also...
... digitally finished or CGI films like Toy Story were typically rendered in at least 2K resolution, which is pretty close to 1080p HDTV. So Blu-ray maximizes the resolution, and gives us greater detail on these films as well. Some of these films have even been re-rendered at higher resolutions, such as at 4K, containing even more detail than 1080p Blu-ray can handle.
In short, while there will occasionally be a few duds, for the most part Blu-Ray will blow away the DVD versions provided you've got the Screen to take advantage of it.

true, but a talky drama shot in tight spaces generally won't take advantage of the format very well, and dvd is "good enough". Take your big epic action film though, and that's where BluRay really shines.

The tag line for the Blu-ray case should read:

Hey, Lucas!
Star Wars used to be cool, magical, etc. It had a mystique about it... then once you put out the new trilogy, you overcommercialized the hell out of it and ran it straight into the ground. Plus, the films SUCKED. I remember going to the theater and hearing the sound of a Tie Fighter screaming or a light saber clashing sent a chill of excitement thru me. Now, there is NOTHING special about that stuff anymore... it's DEAD. It's CHEESY. You KILLED IT. Just like Nickelback.
