I have no idea who David Phelps is, but OH MY GOD!!!

I'm going thru some stuff right now, and the way he sings this totally devastated me and brought me to tears.
But that's EXACTLY what I needed to do - release the stress.

I'm feeling better now. 8)

Do yourself a favor and listen on headphones.

This is my favorite Christmas Song ~ "O Holy Night" - fast-forward to 1:25 & BRACE YOURSELF at the end

Merry Chrismas to you also, my Friend... \~/

After I recovered from being overwhelmed by his beautiful voice and delivery, I watched it again.

Near the end, watch how the guy behind him in the dark grey blazer and red shirt FALLS OUT when David sings "Oh hear the Angel voices..."

 THAT is very rare....your body involuntary responds to the power of Music.

Wow that was magnificant. He gave me chills. What a performance! It's not just about hitting those high notes its how he thought about and delivered every single word.

I think this will be my musical Christmas card to friends and family this year. Thanks for sharing & Merry Christmas!

EXACTLY!!!

The way he sings, "....all oppression shall cease..." is an excellent example:
- how he sings the word "oppression" is just amazing....he gives it sonic "teeth" 8)

Also - one of the things I love is when people take liberties - and pull them off - with established Melody Lines.

I think this will be my musical Christmas card to friends and family this year. Thanks for sharing & Merry Christmas!

SO GLAD you liked it ~ Merry Christmas to you & yours! \~/

I just realized something else:

This song is done in a very majestic, "Marching" 4/4 Time Signature.
The original way it's done is done in a 6/8 "Waltz" Time Signature.

That DEFINITELY adds to the dramatic delivery...Only at the very end Chorus does it go back to the 6/8.

Very cool. Thanks Nora! He has amazing vocal control, and he did an amazing job on it. The pianist did an incredible job too. :D

WoW Thanks for this :)

I believe the guy in the red shirt with the gray blazer behind him is..
Bill Gaither and his wife is to the right of him...Gloria..
The Gaither brothers or Gaither Trio (can't remember which one now) used to tour singing in churches.
They would sometimes go bowling with our church bowling league..
but that was back in the early 1980's...
(he was a pretty good bowler lol)..
Glad to see they are still out spreading the word...

A conversation from earlier today:

Mark: "Hey, Nora....just checking again....what do you want for Christmas - what movies or CDs?"

Me: "David Phelps CD - Revelation" 8) \~/

Just heard about this guy today; I don't care. I want what he's Singing

See Below:
http://artists.letssingit.com/david-phe ... /biography

letssingit.com wrote:...Throughout the phenomenal success he has experienced with Gaither Vocal Band, David has cherished the dream of releasing a solo album expressing his own style and songcrafting.

With the release of Revelation, David has finally fully realized the calling he first felt so many years before.

Featuring songs primarily written or co-written by Phelps, Revelation is a showcase for the impressive vocal and musical training that have shaped Phelps as a performer, swirled into a beautiful sonic blend that reflects the best of 21st century pop.

From dramatic ballads to R&B-influenced groove and rock-tinged, energetic pop, Revelation reveals the musical passion and substantive message behind this exceptional singer/songwriter.

That was the greatest version of that song I have ever heard, bar none. Got the chills and the old ticker started racing a bit with excitement. It was that good.

OUTSTANDING! What an amazing performance - especially the final crescendo leading up to and including that final "divine........" which he sings an octave higher and holds for damn near 7 seconds! Guy has lots and lots of control over his voice and is very comfortable with his abilities. Thanks for sharing this. I'll be re-sharing it! :o

G.I.Jim wrote:Very cool. Thanks Nora! He has amazing vocal control, and he did an amazing job on it. The pianist did an incredible job too. :D

Well.... he did and he didn't. The guy is a very talented pianist, no arguments there but the nearly constant keyboard runs became almost annoying to some degree. Maybe it's just me but, when you're accompanying someone, that's not the time to be grandstanding - especially in a situation like this where the piano was the only instrument for 4/5 of the song. Now, had it been a full orchestra, the runs would have really added to the arrangement. Just my opinion but I feel the real talent being showcased here was Mr. Phelps and not the quick fingering of the pianist. Now, go watch this clip of a pianist who knows how and when to showboat and have a Merry Christmas!!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV-gddts3I0 (The whole clip is awesome but the fun really starts at 2:46    )

Thanks again, Nora. This one is has been permanently added to my bookmarks! 8) :o

I am SO HAPPY you guys are enjoying this! :D

I never heard of him; he looks like a guy you can hang out with and watch Sports.
An "everyday Joe" - or "Dave"

Every day at work, I hear the Josh Groban version of this Song on a local Radio Station.
I  and think to myself..."where's the VINDICATION? Where's the SONIC TEETH??"

 NOTHING can surpass David Phelps' version. NOTHING.

Yet another gem from this CD....one of my favorite Songs.

This guy is pretty gutsy....once again, he goes off of a (VERY) established Melody Line,
and....dare I say....injects soul and passion. 8)

I'm sorry, but this one tops the Pavarotti version by a mile

Always good to get a CD of music you love, Dan gave me one with Harrison's greatest. I love it. I love good music and great singers.

Much like I love your voice! :D

You and Susie P have such different styles yet I so enjoy listening to both of you so much! I have not the intestinal fortitude to sing before large audiences, but I so love singing in church, and with friends for fun.

I am a higher pitched soprano, your mostly alto from what I gathered. I always envied altos, they sound cool all the time. But in honesty I love hitting high notes, and love complex lilts. Though I find some sopranos overdo the showing off on their ranges. It kills a song. Sometimes less is more.
