Wow, has anyone heard of Misophonia? I just heard of it.

No, it's not a band...it's a sensitivity to certain sounds (like open mouth chewing/licking/slurping, etc.) that can cause anxiety/rage! Now, I know I am not crazy. I just heard about it not long ago from Kelly Ripa (the morning show) when she said she had it & I laughed 'cuz she sounded like me describing how she can't stand the sound of her kids eating. There is also an article in the New York Times:

Apparently, it is a REAL thing in the brain processing the sounds or something.

When I was a kid I remember my oldest brother (being 6 ft. tall) screaming at us to "stop chewing...stop breathing!" and threatening to pound us. As I got older (after age 12) I seemed to feel the same way when I heard people chomping gum, slurping...I wanted to punch them in the mouth (um, I still do in the movie theater). Certain repetitive mouth sounds from my family eating drives me crazy and I usually go to my computer and put the headphones on! I always thought it was a reaction to my oldest brother's anger and drawing attention to the sounds...I don't know, I'm still reading up on this...it seems there is a genetic link. Although, I don't get violent...it grates on my nerves and I manage to cope. But, wow, to see I am not the hyper-sensitive/irritable nut that I thought I was...and, not alone. And, when I saw the list of noises that bother...the bass in music from neighbors parties DRIVES ME INSANE!

That's the #1 reason why I sold my house & moved to a nicer neighborhood on the other side of town. Haven't heard it once in the 11 months I've been here. It's peaceful here & I'm lovin' it!

I have this.

It's only triggered by Don Dokken or Justain Beiber's voices.

I absolutely cannot stand hearing someone smacking their food. No one in my house does this, thank goodness, but people at work do. So I just put my iPod on and let them go. But my mistake was, letting them find out about my problem with that, so they do it on purpose. Gotta love my coworkers.

Ya know, this might interest some & might relate to the thread...it has to do with sounds. My nephew was recently diagnosed with sensory issues and is now doing this therapy.
