Hell, as much as I love Ace ( the reason I picked up a guitar), Bruce was the best guitarist they ever had. Ace was the first so people would naturally say that. Most, if not all the albums Ace actually recorded on were the first 3. Even on Destroyer they had session players, Bob Kulick being one of them. Bob K. also played on many more studio recording's during Ace's convenient absence's. Like I said, I love Ace and what he meant to the beginning of the band, but the order is:

1. Bruce
2. Ace
3. Tommy

In terms of overall talent Vinnie was the 2nd best guitarist KISS had.

He'd probably be the best lead guitarist they had if he had more time than 1.5 albums. Ace is the best lead guitarist KISS had because the original group had great chemistry on stage. Bruce was a damn good guitarist, but he didn't really create any really great riffs or he would be ahead of Vinny. The plus with Bruce is he could play stuff from every guitarist before him. St. John sucked, and Tommy can't play Bruce's stuff so fuck him.

I've seen Kiss 30+ times and they are hands down my favorite band of all time.

Ace is the definitive guitarist in KISS history.

Bruce Kulick is the best technically.

Vinnie Vincent was a talented songwriter but I did not like what he did to the earlier Kiss songs on the Creatures and Lick It Up tours live.

Tommy Thayer is playing a part. I'm not thrilled about it, but I understand that it was pointless to create new characters. Stop playing "Shock Me" live with him though.

Agree with Jim here. While Asylum, Crazy Nights, and Hot in the Shade sound a bit dated now, I thought they were great for their time and Bruce brought a lot to the table there. Asylum came out while I was in middle school, and that's what really got me hooked on KISS. Bruce probably would have been the best option for the current band instead of Tommy, but it would have been a huge insult to Bruce to dress him up as Ace.

VV tried to turn everything into a wankfest on stage. Overdrawn and overblown soloing were just the start. Seems like a strange dude.

No shit!. Bruce came up with some great riffs. I'm a huge KISS fan also, but I'm also a realist. Ace in the beginning came up with some fucking great riffs, there is no denying that. Even on Destroyer he contributed quite a bit although Bob Kulick had to contribute more than the band wanted due to Ace's frequent absences. Up thru Love Gun it was the same with Ace, hit & miss, but still coming thru. Bruce though with Asylum, Crazy Nights, & Hot in the shade started churning out some great hooks & riffs. When Kiss put out Revenge with Unholy, Take it off, I just wanna, Bruce had some Great riffs on this one and I thought the band was really hitting their stride. Then came Ace & the reunion that didn't last and to this day I wish Kiss had left the make up off, kept Bruce, and Kept the Revenge act going. On another note, The Revenge tour with the strippers coming out during Take it off was off the chain!

Look at the song writing credits Kulick had 6 song writing credits between the 2 albums you mentioned. Vinnie on the other hand had a song writing credit on 8/10 songs on Lick It Up. Before they released Carnivol Of Souls Kulick had a total of 9 song writing credits total during his time with the band. Don't get me wrong, I like Bruce. I enjoy his 3 albums with Union, COS, and some of his solo work, but his creativity on his early albums with the band wasn't anything special.

Also Crazy Nights is actually my 2nd least favorite KISS album right above Unmasked. I do love Revenge though.

Also wan to mention that the Stanley/Simmons/Singer/Kulick lineup outside of the 1st KISS lineup (until the Dynasty tour) was a bad ass lineup and was IMO the best lineup they've had since the early days of the band.

You didn't say anything about "songwriting". You said he didn't come up with any good riffs. He DID come up with a TON of amazing riffs and solos. I don't really care who wrote the songs. I enjoyed his playing on the albums and think he was by far the best of the group. I did love Lick it up, but I'm a bigger fan of their mid 80's and later albums. Revenge was a great one too, and I too would have rather seen Kiss keep this line-up and continue in that style. I feel like they're just a carnival act now and it drives me crazy.

I think I was just talking about the music(riffs) and I thought you meant that also. I think everyone knows that Stanley/Simmons write the majority of the tunes that end up on the cd.

I don't mind the band as it is now as long as they continue to put out new music. If they go out as a vintage act with no music then it's a waste. Sonic Boom was an alright album and it has me excited about "Monster". I just wish they would take the reins off Singer and let him drum like we know he can drum.

Also if you're a Kulick fan check out the band Union if you haven't already. It's a band centered around Kulick and former Motley Crue/The Scream vocalist John Corabi and they put out a couple solid albums of new matierial before they broke it up.
