Kind of interesting...

The doorbell rings and I go to the door and a woman is standing there. She asked if I knew the people 2 doors down to my east. I said I didn't, that we had just moved here.

She said she had signed a lease to rent that house (we noticed the people moving out of it a few days ago) and gave them money for the lease and was supposed to meet them tonight to get the keys and such. She said they had not shown up, but two other separate people had shown up proclaiming the exact same thing. ie: Gave them money for a lease and were there to get the keys to move in.

I think I would call the cops. Nice neighborhood we moved into.

I moved to this area when I was 19. Everything was so new then. We marveled at how there were no old looking buildings or homes in the area. 30 years later, it's very different. All the shine and polish has given way to a more settled, established feel, with some amount of disrepair. It's kind of unsettling because it's visual proof of how much time has passed, but comforting all at the same time becaused the area has aged well. Unlike myself.

What a nice scam... wonder if whoever "leased" the property wasn't even the owner? It should be pretty easy to figure out, though.

Happy New Year, btw!
