MelodicDOKKfest II (aka M3 2012)

Strictly in the idea stage now, but tentative plans are the M3 Rock Festival in Maryland, May 11th and 12th. To start with, hoping for:

AR
Saint John
Rip Rokken (me)

and a shitload of alcohol and rokkitude.... I made myself a promise that I will go out on my terms, and this would be a damn fine way to die. On the chance I wake up with only a hangover, well... I'll take that too.

Anyone else interested?

Is it fucking cold that time of year up there? I hate fucking cold weather. But, hell, I'll bring some liquor, warm me up, bring a fattie, fire it up. I could hang with RIP, just don't go all Psycho afterlife, hell fire & brimstone on my ass.

Cold in Maryland in May?! HELL NO!!!! It was a bit cool last year at M3 but the year before that, in 2010 it was 98 blistering degrees!!! Not to mention 78% humidity! It usually averages between 75 - 85 in early May and the humidity usually doesn't get too bad until mid-June.

It was cool because it was a dreary rainy day, but the weather pretty much held out until the very end of the night - we got DRENCHED during Whitesnake!!! It was a great night though! I'm still waiting to see who the bands will be. The fact that it's Mother's Day weekend sucks, and might be a deal-breaker for me this year. :(

Queensryche, Warrant and Quiet Riot listed so far. Full lineup should be announced this week. I live 25 miles from the venue. May hire my wife to run a shuttle bus.

No offense Eddie, but you are actually going to pay American dollars to see these bands? Seriously? Kix? Big Noize? Dokken? Ok, but you had better not back out on me and RedJoe13Pa when we go see Bruce at Fed Ex field in the Summer. Deal? Was actually going to see if you wanted to hop aboard Acela and neet ne in Newark for the Marc 2,3rd or 4th shows too? Playing Prudential Center in Newark; Is that a NBA arena?

Sadly, reports are already coming in that scalpers are buying them all up and are going to resell for 5-10 times face value. Bruce is pissed, but what can he do? Keep adding shows? They'll keep buying. It's not his fault, but this shit needs to stop. It isn't a problem over in Europe like it is here, and I don't know why. He is selling out stadiums in an hour or two in Norway, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, England and Finland. Makes no sense to me.

Dean I tried getting tix for Bruce in DC. I was logged in the second they went on sale and still got shut out.

As for the M3 thing, it's all about the party.

But isn't this a 'consumer' problem? If people refused to pay the big price, then this would stop, no?

Dude, he has sold every show out that has gone on sale so far. The big acts like this can command the high prices, and in this case, somwhere along the lines of 103.00, 75 and 59. Wasn't Journey charging this much for their tour last year? Anyway, this is only the beginning of a rumoured to be "last tour ever," which could last up to 3 years, culminating in 15 day stays at Giants Stadium, and 10 day stays at places like London, Dublin, Oslo, Barcelona, Lisbon, Philadelphia, E Rutherford, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston, with plenty of 4-6 days at lesser locales like Denver, San Jose, Housto/Dallas, New Orleans and Florida stops. Not to mention an Australian/New Zealand leg, and a fairly long Asian tour. This is probably it, and he has said it will last as long as everybody who wants to see the E Street Band, gets a chance to do so.

But to answer your question Arkansas, it's out of Bruce's hands, It's all venue and promoter now; however, Springsteen himself decides what barn they play in when that option comes up. For instance, here in Los Angeles, we have three big arenas, Staples Center, The Forum and the Sports Arena...actually four when you count Anaheim(The Pond). He chooses the oldest, shittiest one of the bunch, the Sports Arena, because there are no corporate boxes or any snooty shit like Staples and the Pond have. In his own words, the Sports Arena is the ultimate place for a rock show....it is the ultimate democratic place- everyone has an equal shot at getting what seats they want. In other words, you can't just walk up day of show, and purchase a loge of seats(boxes) because you have money. You need to stand in line for 8 hours day of show to be on floor; first come, first serve. You always have to bring food to be on floor. He is a big food bank guy. Whatever the arena brings in the night of show, he matches the dollar amount. Pretty cool thing to do.

As for ticket scalpers, I have NO idea how to curb that shit, do you guys?

You catch them doing it, cut off their ugly hairy balls, fry them and sell them for souvenirs in the parking lot. You also ban every offending E-Bay seller, regardless of rating. As for Craigslist....who knows?

How about when they scan your ticket at the arena, your name comes up on the reader and you have to show your ID. If it doesn't match, you can't come in. One drawback is that it would take longer to get in.

Or

Have it set up similar to a boarding pass at airports. When you show up to the venue, you walk up to a kiosk and scan your ID. The tickets print out and you go inside.

Somehow it needs to be tied to your ID.

Maybe the only way to stop the brokers - other than consumers refusing to pay their prices - is to stop online buying. Make people go to a box office with a ticket limit, just like in the old days. And even then, do a lottery system where you draw numbers to decide on line position.

The bad part of it all, is that promoters don't care who the crowd is...they just want the seats sold. When you get shows like Springsteen, who happen to be more compassionate with the average income people, they can get pissed about it all. But even then, it's kinda out of their hands.

Tough call.

What about people who buy tickets, then for some reason can't make it to the event and they would like to re-sell their tickets at face value? This idea would prevent them from being able to re-sell their couple of tickets. I am all for stopping scalpers but the solution of matching an ID with the ticket purchaser would prevent that. There has got to be a better solution.

Then you can cancel your order and allow someone else to buy them. Unless you tie the buyer to the ticket, there will always be loopholes. What about a person not being able to take a flight somewhere? They can't re-sell those tickets to someone else.

That's for "national security" reasons. Also, I don't think people would go for linking every single ticket to an individual. How many times have you bought extra tickets, knowing you'd find a friend to go later.

The kiosk idea does have merit, though. You'd have to get the venues to buy into it, but it would allow you to print the tickets as long as you had the purchasing card, even if the card wasn't yours. Another option would be to allow the purchaser to "transfer" the tickets to another card, so that if the purchaser was far away, couldn't get the card in the hands of people actually going, etc..., he could login and update his purchase, allowing another card access at the kiosk.

Big Bruce fan here and all, but this is nonsense. Bruce is to these concert venues/promoters as Joe Pa was to Penn State. Maybe the latter in both scenarios have the titular authority and power, but Bruce could pull rank and set ticket prices at whatever he wanted if he REALLY felt this way.

As for the scalping, it's bad. I went online and started refreshing the page at 9:30 a.m. Was going to really splurge and buy my girlfriend, me, and both our dads (both big fans) 4 nice tickets. As someone else posted, by the time 10 a.m. rolled around and I quickly entered the quantity and "Best Available" option and entered the security code, I was relegated to very expensive nosebleeds. No thanks. Not in the venue he's playing here.

Matty, Landau insists it is completely out of Bruce's hands when it comes to these monster tours. He already said "no" to a sponsor for the tour, which many bands froth over. However, I don't believe he has a say so in the money that can be charged ny promoter and venue. Who is Bruce to say what the quickens Loan Arena in Cleveland can charge and how much profit can they make off of him? Remember, he is getting paid up front a fee by the arena. By doing that, it's from then on, out of his hands.

Just go on Backstreets tickey exchange and pick you some up there for FACE value. I am sure there are floor seats to be had at BTX (Backstreets.com.) But you're right, only shitty nosebleeds left for 59 bucks. You better hope he adds another show or comes and plays the Jake, the Baseball Stadium in Summer, as rumoured.
