14 Pound Baby, No Drugs!!!! (GO MAMA!)

Postby Angel » Tue Jan 31, 2012 8:44 am

In keeping with the new trend of reposting stories seen on Yahoo, Facebook, etc. How 'bout this one? Woman gives birth to a nearly 14 pound baby vaginally with no medications! What a woman!

How fat was she before the pregnancy?

Sounds like another notch in the childhood obesity epidemic's bedpost to me.

You're kinda missing the point....BUT, in the pic it showed, it does appear that she's overweight. I would also bet she's diabetic-or at least gestational diabetic with out of control blood sugars. The article said she has a son that was 12 pounds and by ultrasound they estimated this one to be smaller (another clue she was diabetic, ultrasounds are not routine for estimating fetal size unless there's a complicaiton) and in larger women, ultrasound is less acurate. I had a mama a few months ago that was diabetic, morbidly obese and blood sugars out of control and ultrasound measured her baby to be 7 lbs 15 oz-babe was born the next day and actually weighed 11 lbs 4 oz.

All that aside though, this woman is one tough mama!

I'll never get why that makes anyone a better woman. Kind of a sad way to look at it.

It doesn't make her a better woman in the sense of being better than the next woman but it makes her a better woman in the sense that she overcame the challenge of an unmedicated birth. In a society where we have made trusting the birth process "weird" and medical intervention the norm, it's refreshing to see some women that still believe they have the power to birth babies without drugs and intervention. Not to say it's wrong to use medications but it's each woman's choice and it's each woman's individual experience and what's right for one is not right for everyone....to each her own.

Thanks a lot, Lynn, you just made me use my hippie voice!

I understand what you're saying, but some folks just have a higher pain
tolerance/threshold than others. I have a friend who has her teeth drilled
w/out any medication and I'm never going to try it as long as I can
get the shot!!

Yep, you're exactly right, that's why one way is not for everyone. I recently had to have a root canal with no anesthesia because no matter how much they gave me I didn't get numb....I'd rather go through natural childbirth!!!

I had both of my children natural. My son weighed the most at 8lbs 5 oz. But I am 5'2" tall. I thought I was giving birth to a cannon! He had a very large head the doctor said...I thought, "YOU THINK?"
