I don't get Cheap Trick

Postby conversationpc » Tue Feb 14, 2012 7:24 am

As hard as I've tried, I just don't get Cheap Trick. There are a few good songs but, by and large, I think most of their songs are crappy. Too much pop and not enough rock. Am I the only one here that feels this way? Just curious...

Beyond five songs, Cheap Trick is unknown to me.

They have more than 5 good tunes. Robin Zander is way under rated as a vocalist and Rick Neilson can play the shit out of the guitar. Tight nit band IMO.

I've seen them live at least 25 times. One of my all time favorite bands.

If you want to give them a chance I'd recommend steering away from a lot of their 80's output. Go for the debut self titled CD, the extended version of Buddokan and the Dream Police album.

Also they have put out several really good albums later in their career from the mid 90's on.

I'm in the same boat... I'm not very familiar with their catalog beyond the hits, and guess it was just hard for me to take them seriously with some of the clownishness (Nielsen, mainly), but I have to say... when they toured with Journey and Heart, I enjoyed every bit of their set each time.

My Dan is a big fan, and I liked some of their songs just like you guys did. Dan introduced me to more of their songs and I liked them more. I went to see them with Heart and Journey and really liked them. Now are they my favorite? No. But they are good. I happen to like Nielson clowning around, he keeps the audience laughing.

Not a big fan of theirs myself, I liked a few of their songs but I'm with Dave on this one. Although I don't think they're crappy songs, but for me just nothing to rave about. LOL, one of our favorite singer's thinks they're the cat's meow though. He was thrilled to be going on right before them at Download and was flashing his CT tshirt...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8-qn3krZjw

My favorite Cheap Trick song.

"I know you feel it, there's no doubt about it.
It's getting stronger every day. It's a one in a million,
I was shooting for the starts. You're the world's greatest lover and you're mine."

I will take The Flame, but other than that really don't need to hear a note from them.

The original lead singer, still there and operating at an extremely high level instead of having some clone. They've only made some small lineup changes over the years. The current change with Daxx Neilson filling in for Bun E Carlos as the touring drummer allows them to now play 2 hour sets. Bun E's back problems limited them to maybe 75 minutes a show.
