Facebook Timeline

Postby AR » Wed Feb 15, 2012 1:57 pm

I hate it. No option to delete all posts. That's garbage. Most of it is mundane stuff that I don't even want to read. I think FB has gone too far this time. Might re-register with a clean slate for timeline, but if any of you happen to have me as a friend on there I didn't unfriend you.

You mean like "Oh, it's so sad that Whitney Houston is dead" and "Happy Valentine's Day to all my wonderful Facebook friends. I have the very best husband in the whole world. He brought me breakfast in bed and gave me 8,000 red roses, one for everytime he thought of my this morning."

Yeah, I'm hating all of Facebook today.

I don't like the new timeline at all and have yet to have it forced on my screen.
I loved reading all the heart day statuses.
You're just pissed Nat because you have to catch all those babies that come from
all the love of yesterday.

Oh come on now Ed, I know deep down you love to read warm fuzzy words.
You're a closet romantic, I just know it!

My FB page has been deactivated. Articles like this convinced me.

Timeline is evil.

Lucky for me I have nothing embarrassing from the past to worry about....well not any more embarrassing than anything I posted yesterday or a week ago anyway!

It would take too long to manually remove all that.

Actually, I generally don't care what is out there, but this timeline makes histories way too easy to access. It's not even embarassing posts, just general history of where you were at a certain day and time. Stuff that seems trivial from years ago.

The account was deactivated all day today, but I had to reactivate to download all my pics, vids and contacts. Should have a new account (without the history) in a day or two. I'm just going to purge status updates early and often.

I believe you can limit your old posts from appearing on your new timeline. To do this go to your privacy settings and scroll down to this:

Limit the Audience for Past Posts.
Limit the audience for posts you shared with friends of friends or Public

Click on:

Manage Past Post Visibility

You will find a box saying:

Limit The Audience for Old Posts on Your Profile

If you use this tool, content on your profile you've shared with friends of friends or Public on your Wall will change to Friends. Remember: people who are tagged and their friends may see those posts as well.
You also have the option to individually change the audience of your posts. Just go to the post you want to change and choose a different audience.

Click on:

LIMIT OLD POSTS

You will see this:

Are You Sure You Want to Proceed?

You are about to limit old posts on your profile without reviewing them. Note: This global change can't be undone in one click. If you change your mind later, you'll need to change the audience for each of these posts one at a time.

If this is what you want to do, click:

CONFIRM!

This should limit all old posts on your new timeline.

Call me old school, but fuck social media sites. rant mode=on
What ever fucking happened to living your life as you wanted to? I can't believe the extent that people have become so social media oriented that they have become unsociable to the average neighbor. Everyone has to be plugged in. People can't even make it off their door step to their car without having to answer a text or a god damn cell phone call. I'm getting sick and tired of dealing with customers that can't fucking pay attention to a simple transaction that should only take 5 minutes, only because they have to get up, walk around, text someone, or answer a fucking phone call, right in the middle of the transaction. It ends up costing way much more time. How much productivity do we lose in America every day, simply because this generation has adopted the option to fuck off on company time, talking to their friends, looking at facebook, craigslist, and who the fuck knows what else? You want to fix this economy? Ban all this shit in the work place....period. We have got the be the lowest value, per hour of attendance worked, in the world. I'm getting sick and fucking tired of all these 20 somethings that come to work and spend more time on their smart phones than they spend actually working. Disgusting! I would hit all these kids over the head with a 2x4, then take their devices out in the parking lot and strategically place them under the rear wheels of the garbage truck. Fucking morons! It's sad to think that this is the product our colleges turn out these days.

Sometimes going back in time would be great. When someone calls you and you aren't home, well, they just don't get to talk to you. If I go off fishing for the day, that's it...I'm gone fishing and if you don't like that, fuck you! I'll get back to you when I am back at work. My polite secretary will simply take your message and tell you I will get back to you when I return. I will not get a phone call in the middle of the wilderness, just as I've sighted in on a 5 point buck, getting ready to squeeze the trigger. Sadly, the way things are run these days, we've missed the shot. On my days off, when I choose to spend time with my family, I've learned to just turn off the phone and sometimes the computer. I'll get back to you when I am available....and if you don't like that, Fuck you! It's my life, and within reason, I will live it of my own accord, not yours!

Thank you very much. You've been an amazing audience. Now go jump off a fucking cliff!

Not good enough.

I did find a nice feature where I was able to download all my own content (pics, vids, contact list and wall posts) so blowing up the page and starting from scratch shouldn't be that big a deal. I'm just going to be more vigilant about purging what is on my wall from now on.

On the contrary, I think it's made the average person more apt to be social in "real" life. I've had the opportunity to meet several online friends in "real" life through Facebook and other venues like this message board, for that matter.

In my opinion, unless you're really careless about what you post on Facebook, the timeline thing is no big deal. I've had to apologize a time or two to a couple of my Facebook friends but I can't say that I've ever posted something that I'm so embarrassed about that I would feel worried it would be brought back to haunt me later on. I'm a big boy...I can take it. 8)

Yeah, I don't get the whole worried thing either - if you don't want someone to see something, don't post it. Works every time! :)

Example: A friend of mine has a girlfriend who is very jealous of his ex. She will now be able to see all their interactions on FB from 2 years ago with just a few simple clicks.

Again, this is probably stuff they shouldn't have posted on Facebook in the first place.

I agree. However my issue is with facebook. The least they could do is give their users a "delete all" option instead of the tedious method of having to go through several years of posts.

Also think of the teens using FB who are COMPLETELY irresponsible about what they share online. You want to talk about opening kids up for "cyberbulllying" - this is it.

Agreed. LOL I probably check MR more than my Facebook....enjoy a good discussion/debate. I'm finding Facebook a little tedious sometimes, don't get me wrong though I check it at least a couple times a week and I think it is a great tool to stay in touch with all my friends state-side, but for the most part I communicate with my family and friends here in person or by phone and just randomly check their facebook updates. Like I said I think it's great especially for keeping up and staying in contact with long distance friends. But some of the status updates are getting pretty tedious. I mean seriously who really cares when somebody else is 'checking in' at whatever restaurant or whatever? LOL have no use for that app.

Remember, when you deactivate facebook, your info is still sitting out their just in hybernation mode so if you want a completely fresh start deleting the account is the best option.

I agree with a lot of this. I see it. It's an obsession, especially with teens. Hell, I know my kid would absolutely have a shit fit conniption if the phone wouldn't

work, if he misplaced it, if he dropped it and it broke and wouldn't work. I know this because this has happened at one point while he has owned a phone.

Then it's like we have to go to the Sprint store right away, right NOW, or he's gonna miss something so fucking important the world will stop spinning if he

didn't know about it right then! When his friends come over (and I don't know why they have to) they all have their phones, all texting someone else, every

one telling the other what this person is doing or saying and never really having a conversation with the people in the room. It fucking amazes me to no end.
