What do you think of the new VH album?

Shit lyrics and poor vocals combined with outstanding musicianship. That's classic Van Halen.
I like it.

They're back. I read a quote that jested that the album should've been titled "1985", I agree.

A bit off topic but I found this video of Dave explaining the Brown M&Ms requirement in their concert rider. Not a bad idea and it makes a lot of sense.

Eddie's sober, Dave's back, they're playing and sounding great! What's not to like? It's only rock 'n roll... but I like it.

I have listened to this album non stop since I bought it. Literally!! Every time I get in a vehicle, I'm listening to it. I have to say, I LOVE the first 5 tracks. To me, I HATE "Bullethead". It's one of the worst songs I've ever heard from them. There are a couple of others I'm not fond of... "Trouble With Never" and "As Is" aren't my favorites. "Honeybabysweetiedoll" is great musically, but I don't care much for the vocals. "Beats Working" isn't too strong either. To me, the top songs are:
1. She's the Woman
2. Big River
3. Tattoo
4. Blood And Fire
5. You And Your Blues
6. Stay Frosty
I LOVE the album though. Now I'm ready for the new Europe album...

The mix on this album is about as clean as I've ever heard. It has an amazing sound. It really surprised me. I like some it it, not other parts of it. But when you look at the whole back story and consider the path it took to get to this album, it's far better than one would expect.
My only issue is it doesn't really have hooks and great lyrics that bring me back to an album. So I'll listen some and then it will be on the shelf. I'm still a much bigger fan of the Hagar-era stuff.
Kudos to Dave for actually being the grown up in all of this and managing the best he can with the craziness around him. I get the sense of someone that appreciates very much this second opportunity. Even if he is lame with his whole Vegas style and that stupid smile.

Stern has a Van Halen history pulling content from the history of his show...- sounds like a pod cast, can't imagine this staying up for long..

Have listened to it all the way through a lot. 2 times with my son, 16. I'm a huge VH fan. REAL VH fan that is with Diamond Dave on the mic.
Never cared for spammy, his voice, his look, etc. If it weren't for VH, his career would have been like Billy Squier's. GOD I hate that shit. Now on to the CD. I
read Andrew's review this morning, since it's overcast, rainy, windy, a getting fucking cold, I have time today. 98? Gimme some of that Kool-aid man! Andrew
quoted, " And I guess that might be the one point that some fans or casual VH listeners might grasp on to and bitch about. But the old school VH fans know
better. Van Halen never were a chorus band until they started evolving with 1984 and then into the Sammy Hagar era." What? I totally disagree with that and I
grew up with the band. Now, I don't quite get what your definition of that may be, but you could certainly understand the lyrics when Dave sung, and you could
Distinguish the chorus from the rest of the tune. From "Runnign with the devil", Jamie's Crying", Feel your Love tonight", "Ain't talkin bout love", "Dance the
night away", "Beautiful Girls", "Women In Love", "And the cradle will rock", "Everybody wants some", "Take your whiskey home", there are plenty of VH tunes
that you can hear the chorus and sing along to. You Cannot on this one. Beside's "Tattoo" which I think is vintage VH at it's best, "Blood and Fire" which has
that Little guitars sound to it, "Stay Frosty", which is vintage Halen, the rest of it is like listening to "Light up the sky", "Loss of control", "Tora Tora" or D.O.A. till
your ears bleed! I am, to say the least disappointed. Sure, EVH plays the shit of it, it fucking overshadows the song, and to me, it's all about the song. Can you
sing along to it? The answer is no in my book. The CD is full of energy, and it's refreshing to hear a CD that's real rock n roll and not over-produced, pro-tooled
to death snippet ass garbage that most bands make today. Anyone who's been on board the VH wagon since the beginning knows Dave's never had a great
singing voice. It's been a lot of years since the 'prime time' so let's be realistic, the guy's catching up to 60 years old. I know what I expect from Dave. I expect
to be entertained, nothing more, nothing less. And like my kid said, 'Sounds like DLR with Van Halen to me", yes it does. The lyrics on the CD are vintage Roth.
You know what your getting. Roth's lyrics compared to the other mop makes him seem like a hungry Robert Frost, about to write on the road less traveled.
"When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor", classic VH. This is still a better CD than anything they ever did post-Roth. But, that isn't tough to do. I
like this cd, just don't love it. 7 and a half in my book, by Andrew's 75%.

I'm sure it took some time to get past their differences.
DLR was trying to be the bigger person, or he was acting like he was.

VAN HALEN kicked off its North American headlining tour last night (Saturday, February 18) at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
The band's setlist was as follows:
01. You Really Got Me
02. Runnin' With The Devil
03. She's The Woman (new song)
04. Romeo Delight
05. Tattoo (new song)
06. Everybody Wants Some!!
07. Somebody Get Me A Doctor
08. China Town (new song)
09. Mean Street
10. (Oh!) Pretty Woman
11. Alex Van Halen Drum Solo
12. Unchained
13. The Trouble With Never (new song)
14. I'll Wait
15. Dance The Night Away
16. Hot For Teacher
17. Women In Love (perfomed live for first time since 1980)
18. Outta Love Again (perfomed live for first time since 1979)
19. Beautiful Girls
20. Ice Cream Man
21. Panama
22. Eddie Van Halen Solo
23. Ain't Talkin' ‘Bout Love
24. Jump
VAN HALEN's next concert is scheduled to take place this Monday, February 20 at The Palace Of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.
I cannot believe that left out my favorite Halen tune. My GOD how can you leave out "Jamie's Cryin"? And if they wanted to play a few off of ADKOT, why did
they pick that muddle piece of shit "Chinatown"? Should have put "Big River" there. From "Ice Cream Man" right into "Stay Frosty". Replace the cover tune
"Pretty Woman" with something like "Take your whiskey home", Sinner's Swing", or "Drop Dead Legs". PLaying "Outta love again" & "Women in love" though
is sweet. 24 songs. I'll take that.

Better than
5150? No way.
P.S. 7.5 = 75%.

Verslibre, you love that synth pop rock driven shit and thats fine. And I think you like trying to get under someone's skin. But, I know the truth hurts sometimes
and you have to come to terms with it. And the different kind of truth is "Stay Frosty" is better than any one song off of 5150. Now you Stay Frosty.

It took me a few listens, but it grew on me quickly and is still growing. Not so hook-heavy, but more like classic VH. Love it!

My thoughts on Van Halen... This current incarnation won't stay together, and Eddie won't stay sober. Dave and Eddie are the Toxic Twins. Also, as great as a showman as Roth always was, I've really never thought that he was much of a singer. I'll take Sammy all day long. 5150 will forever be my favorite VH album.

Kinda weird... In the talking clips for the new album, Dave is actually completely coherent and comes off as pretty intelligent. In the past it's been "what is this guy talking about???"

I liked 5150 when it came out but it sounds very dated to me know. I like the later CD's more - Balance and Carnal Knowledge from Sammy's era and totally despise OU812.
Most hated VH song ever = "When It's Love".

Jump.
I think Jump and Tattoo are twin sisters.

Ed's solo in Romeo Delight absolutely BURNS!!! The descending tapping part is just phenominal. Playing like he's 20 again. Good to see him staying off the sauce.!
