Opinions on Xfinity & Uverse?

Postby conversationpc » Tue Feb 28, 2012 3:59 am

In preparation for working from home full time in the next couple of months, I'm wanting to upgrade my internet connection to something faster. I also want to bundle that with TV service, so I'm pretty much looking at either Xfinity or U-Verse. Top speeds look to be a little higher on Xfinity internet but, honestly, the additional speed probably isn't going to be something I'll need since I don't do online gaming or streaming a lot of video.

I've heard that the picture quality on Xfinity is better than U-Verse but is it completely horrible on U-verse? However, channel selection and DVR capability look to be better on U-Verse also.

No experience with U-Verse but I'm a former Comcast/Xfinity subscriber. Terrible customer service and constant outages when I was with them. We had bad underground lines in my neighborhood and they refused to dig up the street and fix them. The only reason I didn't have to wait when I had service calls was because my brother is a Comcast employee.

I've had Verizon FiOS now for a few years and it's great. Never have had one problem in over 3 years.

I looked into FiOS but it is unfortunately not available where I live.

Totally agree with this ^^^^. Part of the reason the name was changed from Comcast to Xfinity was because of such a poor image in the market due to their horrible service. Customer service absolutely makes you want to pull your hair out. Google "Comcast Sucks" and there are many pages dedicated to spreading the word on the bad service. The last time I had to stand in line to exchange a DVR box (over an hour), the guy behind me was there to turn in his equipment and said he had just had U-verse installed throughout his home. Took a little while to get it all installed, but he said they were thorough and did a professional job. Said he had wished he had made the switch much sooner. Our neighbors across the street dumped Comcast and have U-verse now and love it as well.

We had a bad install experience with U-Verse when we tried to convert last year. They came out to do the install and turned off our current service to start installing the new. The guy couldn't find some signal he was looking for and said he would have to get in contact with some other technician in the area. Several hours later, he hadn't called me back so I had to call him and he said someone else should be out to turn our old service back on until they could look at it again. To make a long story short, our internet was out the entire weekend and we ended up canceling the install.
