One of the coolest things that happened in my life thus far

Postby YoungJRNY » Tue Mar 13, 2012 7:07 am

Today is a total mark-out day for me. My father just informed me with some pretty cool news in our everyday life. My father, who is a top boss in the Steel Mill industry and is considered one of the best at what he does, was approached today at his facility about filming of a movie in the Mill, production set around April. Turns out, executive producers of this new film (which is said to be about 'Dangerous Jobs' and the danger of being someplace like a Steel Mill) wants my father to break-in and be a mentor in the production of lead actor, Christian Bale and teach him the inside safety precautions and dangers of the job he's going to be portraying, which will be a Mill worker tapping a Furnace. My father will be in charge of watching over and breaking in Bale to do the job and also be responsible for every safety precaution that needs to be takin' forth and how and where the camera crew and such is allowed to set up for best of positioning inside the work area.

Too cool my dad will be a mentor and responsible for the safety and knowledge to Batman! 8)

Thanks guys 8) . He's getting a huge kick out of it because he wasn't sure what was going on when he was called to the head trailer of human resources. He walks in and executive producers of Hollywood are sitting there asking him all kinds of questions of what can and can't be done with this whole process of filming.

When he got done explaining what needed to be done with safety issue's, they kept running by the information of what they wanted from him and wanted to make 6 to 7 takes with "Christian" taking temperatures of the heats, loading scrap into ladle's and tapping the furnace. My dad's crew will do the dirty work, but they said once the procedure is over in filming, they will make it look as if Bale did the job. My dad could also be a stand-in and shake Bale's hand as he exits the Mill in a 'going home' scene or so. Exciting stuff.

Congrats to your dad. You gotta be proud of him..

My gpa worked at Great Lakes Steel for years..until 1 day on their lunch break..
they went to their usual location..(on the roof of the building..4 stories up) back in the
early 1960's....to cool off & he fell 4 stories to the ground...thus ending his job with them...
Gpa was an ole fart..he survived and over the years got 1 or 2 hip replacements...
the last with a cadaver hip....
For years before though he worked in OH, PA mills before settling in Michigan in the 1950s..
I remember the stories he told us as kids about the mills...HOT & dangerous...

I don't think I've ever witnessed a more hard working, blue collar worker than my father. I've been accustomed to the mill my whole life and I've watched him work a very concerning & grueling number amount of days and hours, working 16 hour shifts consistently with only so many days off in between through the entire years worth. I was concerned with his age and health at one point during his brutal schedule (being atop the podium, my dad is only one of 3 guys that can do his certain job) but thankfully, his facility is BOOMING and they've been hiring thousands of men at a time to help out with certain turns. The perks are awesome of what my dad has become because Mill workers can be unforgiving and unappreciated but when it comes to my dad, people I don't even know have come up to me and have shaken my hand due to the career and reputation of my father and he is regarded as an elite worker within the industry. Couldn't be more proud and privileged to be a son of a hard working man trying to walk in his same footsteps.

And AR, I thought you'd appreciate that 8) haha.

When I moved from Michigan I got a job with a well known company..
Their die cast room was one of the hottest damn rooms I been next to even with the blowers..
well except maybe working in the furance room...
One day in 1981... a guy was trying to make incentive pay & stuck his head in the die...& unfortunately
he stepped on the "safety" pedal & the die cut his head clean off.
Talk about OSHA coming down on them....& they show up real fast..
The supervisors shoved brooms in our hands & made everyone shut down their machines...
That was it for me with them...went back to college & got my degree...couldn't leave there
soon enough...

Robert Devall will be in the movie as well but he probably won't be stationed at the mill. They aren't sure what scenes Duvall will be or if he'll be within the perimeter's of the mill but they are expected to shoot for 2 days in April inside the facility.

Tonight, there was a casting call for Bale's new movie with this taking place. It's called "Out of the Furnace." They are looking for real tattoo artists, African American babies, and cars older than 2005.

Just a few hours ago, my dad had lunch with Christian Bale and producers at a nice restaurant. My dad is officially his consultant, will be in the movie as a character and will sign a movie contract in the next couple of days. He says Bale is pretty little, long black hair and swears like a drunkin' sailor, haha. He said he's pretty damn cool and the producers are enjoying their time here and get a huge kick of out our Pittsburgh-lingo. They'll be back in 3 weeks to start shooting.

Hopefully, I get in on the action. I atleast want Bale to sign a copy of my Batman Begins and The Dark Knight DVD covers. That would be RAD! 8)
