Levon Helm's Battle With Cancer Coming To An End

Postby Peartree12249 » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:14 pm

Levon Helm from the Band has battled throat cancer for years but now his family has reported that sadly, the end is near for Levon. IMO The Band is one of the most creative and unique "rock" bands ever. Levon was a huge part of their success. Although I never got to see the Band, I did have the pleasure to see Levon and Russell Smith from the Amazing Rhthym Aces perform here at Summerfest back in the 80's. It was a wonderful show! If you've never taken the time to watch the "Last Waltz" do yourself a favor and watch it. It's a musical masterpiece.

Elton John's song is about the guy, the lyrics actually written by Bernie Taupin, but when you've got that, you know you're doing alright.

Sad to see he couldn't beat that awful disease.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Really?!? I always thought they used the name because they
both loved/had great respect for The Band/Levon, but isn't Levon
a drug dealer/not a good father in that song?!?

A true legend and inspiration to so many, loved his soulful vox.
He was perfect in CMD, just brilliant. RIP, Levon Helm.

Bernie used Levon's name in the song because he liked it but the song isn't about him.

I guess I should have said that Elton's song referenced the guy's name. I'll be more careful next time.
