:(

Aw. Sad news. I remember me and my best friend playing the sh!t out of the Beastie Boy's first album License to Ill. We never even played "Fight for Your Right to Party".

I was all about "Hold it Now":

And my best friend loved

and

Guilty whites wanting to justify an awful genre of music just because it is mostly African American. Keith Richards imitated Chuck Berry - THAT was something cool to rip off!!!!!

:?
That may very well be one of the most convoluted thoughts I've seen here on MR in quite some time. Care to elaborate? I mean, I'm sure you're right. Heaven knows Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson (where ever they are) are eternally grateful to Steve Perry for legitimizing their music genre with his theft...er...I mean use of their influence in his music.

I will elaborate.

Rap sucks and The Beastie Boys are "relevant" because they are 3 Jewish boys trying to be ghetto.

Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson and Chuck Berry all fucking rocked and should be emulated and were!!!!! Great singers and a guitar player. African Americans out of blues created rock. No question!!!!!

Rap and hip hop suck. The Beastie Boys were 3 Jewish guys pretending to be street. They produced nothing but shit. Rolling Stone magazine put these suck asses into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame"

Anyone who thinks that they were important at all are just wrong.

That is how I feel and will NOT back down from it.

They fucking suck. My call. Do not understand why anyone would listen to them at all.

We can agree to disagree, but they sucked and I don't get it and won't ever.

Ok, Ed. I went back and looked at your post again. Reading comprehension was not the best tonight under the cloud of long hours at work and a couple shots.

I now question why I bothered to comment on a band I never cared to listen to. I think you're right and I do not feel compelled to "catch up" on their work.

Steve I just don't get them. I know one song if you want to call it that by them. Don't see what the big deal was.

Their only "good" song was "You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party" in the mid-late 80's...I actually thought they all died after that song.

Some say it sucks, some say it blows, but their sheet music flew off the shelves in rolls, so you could wipe your belows.

These guys were more of a punk rock/rap band and Punk was making a comeback back in the mid 80's, the debut album has to be diamond status by now. These guys did better on 1 album then most do on 10. They have a cult following to this day, teenagers love this band , how could over 10 million be wrong about this band Image

Their last album came out a few weeks before Journey's Eclipse and sold 128,000 copies its first week. Even after all these years, they still have quite the fan base.

We get it. Journey is the used car salesman of album sales, but man can they tour! A cult following does not add up to tour sales. ;)

Duh, though Journey is a poor example since they tour as a three part package. Bon Jovi or Roger Waters are better examples. Minimal album sales the last year but over a hundred million earned in touring. And no 15 song setlist either.

Bon Jovi - 26 songs
Roger Waters - 28 songs

I DO think it's sad that the guy died that young, but the music...well...I thought it was a gimmick/novelty like Teblow.
