I hope it's neither. A nice success story for this band (without all the drama) would be great. Release a decent album, have a great tour... Hope all is well out there in VH land.

Rumors That Van Halen ‘Hate Each Other’ Emerge in Wake of Tour Postponement

by: Ultimate Classic Rock Staff

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/van-hale ... ng-rumors/

With no official word from the Van Halen camp about the reasons behind yesterday’s sudden postponement of over 30 dates on their summer 2012 tour schedule, speculation has set in, some of it focused on the reportedly testy relationship between David Lee Roth and his bandmates.

Rolling Stone quotes a tour insider as saying that the band members “hate each other,” with another stating that, “The band is arguing like mad. They are fighting.” After ruling the rock world together for much of the late-’70s and early-’80s, the original members of Van Halen famously spent much of the last three decades apart, trading occasional barbs via the press (and dueling album titles) before reuniting sans bassist Michael Anthony for a highly successful tour in 2007.

The band has been on the road since February in support of their first album with Roth in 28 years, ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’ Just last week they added several new dates to their summer tour plans, making the news from yesterday all the more puzzling. (Our current favorite theory involves “a terrible case of hiccups.“)

In one of his few recent interviews in support of the new album and tour, Roth spoke highly of his bandmate, guitar wizard Eddie Van Halen, telling the Los Angeles Times, “There’s an old Russian saying: ‘There’s no more lines in that guy’s stomach.’ It means somebody got fat and slow. There are still a lot of lines in Eddie’s stomach.”

Van Halen returned the favor last month in Esquire, declaring of Roth, “We never really hated each other. I think the press blew that out of proportion… if we argued — you know, now it’s always about, about the structure of a song. It’s never personal. We’ve never on a personal level not gotten along.”

Completely waiting for Andrew before coming to any conclusions on this.

Van Halen play Minnesota on Saturday night. Should be a ton of youtube footage.

Just when we all were beginning to think we were going to get a killer Van Halen album and an entire tour without any drama whatsoever, look what happens!
Yesterday, Van Halen POSTPONED (not canceled!) most of their Summer tour dates with no reason given. Immediately, speculation ran wild. Fans wondered if there were health issues. Rolling Stone quotes a mysterious “source with knowledge of the tour” who supposedly said the band members “hate each other” and are “arguing like mad.”
The Van Halen News Desk now has some answers form our trusted and proven sources. Other than those Summer dates having to be moved, it’s actually good news.
First off, no one in the band is sick. No health problems.
Second, we knew right away that Rolling Stone’s “source” is completely wrong, and can not possibly be a person with actual inside knowledge of the tour, because all four band members have been getting along splendidly throughout the entire tour. Roth and the Van Halen’s talk every day, and they are all smiles on stage. Everyone who’s seen the tour or even youtube videos can confirm that.
In fact, the band is on such a high from playing together this year and they were really taken aback by the Rolling Stone quote. They’re older and wiser and haven’t had any issues with one another.
Why were these dates postponed? The band has been working tirelessly for the last 18 months – writing and recording “A Different Kind Of Truth”, filming the “Tattoo” video, rehearsing, putting together the show themselves (lighting, the videos, the stage, routing the tour, and lots of behind the scenes stuff that most people don’t even know about). The band wants the second leg to be as awesome as the first. And for that to happen they want to put more time into the planning of it. Not just continue on with the same show.
Van Halen is very enthusiastic about the rest of the tour and wants be on the road for a long time. Just how long remains to be seen, but we’ll say that the tour will probably continue into next year. They are now considering touring Australia and Japan in the near future.
As it stands now, the 31 postponed US shows are due to be rescheduled. There should be some sort of official announcement forthcoming.

Sammy Hagar Talks About Van Halen Tour Postponement

by: Dave Lifton

One of the reasons for Sammy Hagar’s longstanding appeal is that nobody onstage has as much fun as he does. Now, he’s got even more reason to smile after hearing the news that Van Halen has postponed more than 30 dates on their 2012 tour.

“I’m surprised it took this long,” Hagar told the Associated Press. “I predicted this was going to happen a lot sooner. I lost money on that bet!”

Hagar was speaking from Atlantic City, N.J., where Chickenfoot played at the House of Blues on Friday (May 18) night. Before the show, Hagar donated $10,000 to Atlantic City’s St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church for its food pantry, something he tries to do in every city he plays.

Although the band is citing exhaustion as the reason for the postponement. Hagar has a different take. They’re hard people to get along with, those brothers,” he continued. “Otherwise I’d still be in the band.”

No such issues are apparent for Chickenfoot, which is currently on tour behind its new album, ‘III.’ They even welcomed back drummer Chad Smith for a surprise encore at Wednesday’s show at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. Kenny Aronoff has been taking over the drummer’s stool while Smith has been busy with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

He jumped the gun, just like half of my facebook friends.

Tried telling people that if it was really tension within the band that they would just pack it in and not continue on another month. That wouldn't have made any sense.

Sammy is a great singer... and has had a great career... his Montrose alone time should put him in the HOF IMHO...

But ... In this case Sammy should just shut the fuck up.

Eventually Roth is gonna issue a statement that Sammy needs to "let go of his hate" and.. Sammy is gonna look like an idiot..

good for them - and appreciate Dave speaking out fairly quickly...

even with a commitment to reschedule, I wonder what the damage / cost is to the concert venues / promoters, and to the band - this kind of stuff has to be expected of course, but still must create a lot of heart burn for people responsible in the coordination of the tour and venues that host

I'm sure it causes a big mess. Better than continuing on and committing fraud in front of ticket paying fans though.

Did anyone happen to notice that this video was comped big time? Take a loot at the scene cuts. The dog is facing a different direction each time the scene cuts.....sorry, the nature background, the water and the dog make it seem like this whole thing was done off the cuff, without pressure.....but it was rehearsed, scripted...and yes....re-shot in spots.

more spin off of howdy doody mountain.

I find it laughable that between 1985 and 2007, David Lee Roth publicly and openly blasted the VH brothers for the spin, the lies and the BS that drooped off the side of Howdy Doody Mountain like runny mexican running down ones thigh....but now he's the mouthpiece for the same bullshit.

Sorry, you do *not* book a tour, make people part with their cash and then cancel/postpone the tour....just so you can take a break....you build it in. When you have to force venues to refund money, you're not doing it because you need a 'refresh'. You're doing it because something's fucking wrong.

Sorry....no amount of nature walk videos done bob ross style is going to change the facts here. Somethings up in VH.....it might not be the obvious suggestions, like EVH drinking, AVH needing another neck brace or Wolfgang running out of donut money......but something is serious enough to have them call off the tour for a while to fix it.....

....I just wish they'd fucking tell us the truth, instead of this highly spun bullshit. VH fans have been getting fucked for 15 years straight prior to this crap. Is this any way to treat fans this loyal?

Seriously, you don't book a tour of that magnitude then just decide to "take a break" without a good reason! Too much money tied up and lost, not to mention lawsuits that could insue.

The canceled Baltimore show helps me out. Really didn't feel like laying out that kind of dough right now.

Word of advice to all, unless it's Springsteen get your tickets at the last minute and not when they first go on sale. You will usually get better seats and not have to worry if a show gets axed.

Van Halen postponed dates and have inconvenienced some ticket purchasers.

I was once paid $100 for a Journey Generations club show and was given a fraudulent show which is much worse. Journey SHOULD have done exactly what Van Halen just did instead of "performing".
