I was debating sharing this, but since it is such a high risk thing for women I guess I will. No big deal in the long run if anyone here knows...


I found a red spot on my breast, and below it a hard small rock like thing. I went to the doctor and he said it was unusual and scheduled to cut it out. I am a high risk patient in this regards. My mom had a double radical mastectomy at my age. I have two aunts on my dad's side and one great grandmother on my dad's side.

I went today and had it removed...I won't know the results of the pathology till next Friday when I get the stitches taken out. I don't regret removing it for one second. If it is nothing but a benign cyst then I will have another dimple on my left breast and my husband can affectionately call me Dimples. I will wear that nick name with pride.

It is not worth vanity to risk my life. My mom's mass went from the size of a pea to both breasts and into her lymph nodes in one months time. Her doctor wanted to wait and see. She paid the price for that. She is a survivor, but she has never been the same physically since. I think the chemo took so much from her health wise.

Even if you think it is a little nothing, get it checked. It is worth it. Cutting it out while it is small is no big deal either. A little soreness in exchange for my life is worth it. Early detection is everything.

Once this heals I am scheduling my mammogram, please be sure to take care of yourselves ladies. I was a little scared even though this is my third biopsy. You always fear bad news. But if it is the worst and it is small it will be easier to deal with than waiting and worrying.

My dad's mom passed away from breast cancer when I was just 3. I don't remember a thing about her, and she was only 53 when she died. My aunt (dad's sister), who I'm very close with, caught her own breast cancer at around the same age as her mom/my grandma a few years back. Luckily, by staying on top of things, she found it early, beat it, and has been in perfect health for the last few years. Breast cancer seems to be one of the cancers that really benefits from proactive check-ups/early treatment.

So I'll just echo everything you said and wish you the very best!

I just went for my yearly check-up yesterday and am having a sonogram next week. Pammies mammies are getting tested!!

Thanks to all. I do agree getting tested is important. Unfortunately I rarely get time to be tested except for summer break. This was something I found recently and could not get time to get it taken care of till today. I am sure it is probably benign due to its closeness to the surface.

Matt I am sorry to hear about your grandmother. I am glad your aunt found her's early. I thought even the guys can remind wives and loved ones to do checks, and do them often.

I am not as scared as I was the first time I got a biopsy, but it is still scary...it always is till they give you the result.

Peace of mind those Pammies and Mammies. They let you know things are going well, or if not, to get them taken care of asap! I encourage every lady here to go get your pancake smoosh!

Agreed, Ginger... I recently found a lump as well, which is being removed in a week (it's a sclerosing papilloma and likely benign). When doing the mammo for that lump (found in self checkup), they found another I couldn't feel. And I'm only 29.

Luckily, my breast cancer risk is relatively low, but as a seven-year cancer survivor (Non-Hodgkins lymphoma), I don't play around.

Amanda keeping my fingers crossed yours is also a benign lump. It is not fun getting them cut out, but sometimes worth it if it gives you peace of mind it is out of there.

I find out Friday morning the results. I am sure it will all be fine, I just wanted to remind others to do those monthly exams and get their mammies done.

Not just good advice for the ladies, there are plenty of screening tests and self exams you men should be doing, too.

Get it done if you can and you have a history in your family. Talk to your doctor about the best course of action.

Just got the news this morning. It was benign. I pray the same for you and Amanda. I had high hopes due to the fact it was so close to the surface. The one I had before was much deeper and took a little longer to get better.


I have a cute dimple to show for it. And a TON of peace of mind!

Thanks for your positive energy!....the path for the sample was benign...but they want it out to look at the whole thing. It's a rare kind of tumor...although benign it has to come out. Lucky me!
