Chula Vista singing sensation Jessica Sanchez may be returning to network TV in a big way this fall.

It was confirmed on Thursday that negotiations are under way for the 16-year-old to join the cast of “Glee” for a multi-episode arc. Her TV series appearances could coincide with the release of her debut album, following her quiet signing to Interscope Records late last month.

The “Glee” role for Jessica, who last month came in second to Phillip Phillips on “American Idol,” has yet to be defined. But she will be in good company. The pop-music-fueled show has already announced that actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson have signed on for multi-episode guest spots. Both will appear during the show’s fourth season, very possibly alongside Jessica, who seems to have more career momentum building for her so far than Phillips.

“I came in second,” Jessica said Wednesday, during an “American Idol Live 2012” concert tour preview in North Hollywood. “Everything happens for a reason.”

The question now is exactly when a deal could be completed for Jessica to join “Glee,” which is produced by 20th Century Fox and, like “Idol,” airs on Fox.

“That (date) is not something we can confirm at this point. It’s something that is still being negotiated,” Fox spokesman Matthew Mitchell told U-T San Diego Thursday.

Jessica, who turns 17 on Aug. 4, would become the youngest cast member on “Glee,” which has been largely set at a fictitious high school.

Her addition to the series would come following the conclusion of the “Idol” concert tour, which includes a July 26 stop at San Diego’s Valley View Casino Center and wraps up Sept. 11 in Milwaukee.

But “Glee” may only be part of the next chapter for Jessica, whose storybook rise from home-schooled obscurity to the national “Idol” spotlight quickly made her a local, national and even international favorite. (Jessica is Filipino-American on her mother’s side and Mexican-American on her father’s side.)

Late last month, Jessica quietly signed a recording contract with Interscope Records. The label is headed by former Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty album producer Jimmy Iovine, who served as the music coach on “Idol” this season and repeatedly sang Jessica’s praises on air.

During the May 10 telecast of “Idol,” Iovine said: “A friend of mine, Tommy Mottola, (who) helped start the careers of Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey, emailed me immediately (after hearing Jessica on the show) and said: ‘I’m going to her first concert. This is the real thing.’ I agree with him.”

No official announcement has been made about Jessica being signed by Interscope, which is also the home to superstar acts U2, Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas, as well as last year’s “Idol” winner, Scotty McCreery. But Jessica’s name now appears on the roster of artists listed on the label’s website.

I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I couldn't find anything else music related today so I thought this might stimulate conversation.
