Is that such a bad thing though? How many bona fide action stars are there any more, anyway? Even the comic book movies that have swept cinemas for the last 8-10 years mostly don't rely on guys who cut their teeth exclusively on action films.

A B-movie? Seriously? If the crap on SyFy looked that good, I'd watch every piece of shit they air.

Karl Urban (Eomer/"Bones" McCoy) is Judge Dredd. He will NOT remove his helm in this film.

Btw, that's Lena Headey as MaMa. She's been around.

Its not good if 90% of the actors are unknown(dredd goes from a huge cast of well liked actors to complete unknowns) , if it was a 50/50 split maybe ,but from this screener it looks like a straight to dvd release .

The crap on syfy is more c or d level , both these 2 actors are relative unknowns. i dont see how these choices will draw people in, movies are struggling as it is , hell it's a lionsgate release, that says everything ....They're the kings of "b" and "c" movies

Thanks - saved me a lot of iPhone pecking about the cast. :) I remember Lena most as Sarah Connor from the "SC Chronicles".

I don't pay much attention to what other people think of the movies I want to see.

Didn't a movie called The Fast & The Furious, also with a bunch of "relative unknowns," spawn a successful franchise? (Dredd won't, because this version is much more faithful to the character and concept than the cheeseball Stallone film.)

People know Karl Urban's name from the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and the new Star Trek. He's definitely not an unknown after the latter.

If it came out on bluray 3D I'd definitely buy it.

You cant be serious trying to compare these two actors to
Vin diesel
Paul walker ......even back then Image

This movie also had Ted levine, and Thom Barry(both well known supporting actors that have been around for 20 + yrs).
If your going to try to bring new unknown people into the fold you have to have some(well known) supporting actors like these 2 guys to build them up and from that clip I can't see anyone that is even a "known" supporting actor.........cmon Ted levine is iconic(the silence of the lambs) 8)

Check out the Vin fan!

TF&TF made those two guys, no disputing it. Paul Walker was next to a nobody before that movie.

Vin had a role in Saving Private Ryan as the guy who got shot by the sniper. He didn't have a large role.

I saw the trailer and wasn't sure if or how this fit in with the Stallone movie. Is it a reboot? A prequel? I couldn't tell...

He's as widely known much as Taylor Kitsch. Similarly, both may make the cover of US Weekly, but neither can open a hit movie. Without any bankable names, Dredd will fail.
Obscure title - proven talent = surefire box office failure.
Kitsch just proved that with John Carter (that, and the movie sucked).

Pretty much. Like I told Yulog, this isn't the birth of a new dollar-sponging franchise. It's grittier and more faithful to Wagner's & Mill's original vision (minus certain changes to the uniform). We won't see Urban's face in the movie at all, and the masses of asses always need a well-worn (or pretty) mug to latch onto. But that still didn't save John Carter (which shouldn't have bore such a lame-o title).

The flick with Stallone sucked hardcore.

I remember being vaguely amused by the scene where Sly is held hostage by a band of apocalyptic mutant/cannibals.
Overall, I don't think it was the disaster it's reputed to be. I lump it in with Alec Baldwin's The Shadow. Just another would-be 90's franchise that failed to latch on.

Yes, that was one of the things the film got dead on... the Angel Gang. Can't tell you how much I enjoyed seeing Mean Machine Angel come to life on the big screen. It was a pretty perfect translation.

A clip from the film... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlBwr80CJOQ

There will be an advance screening (offsite) of this movie at Comic Con, to be introduced by Karl Urban.

If the line isn't too long, I'll make the effort uptown to go to it. Otherwise, September.

Btw, if Dredd grosses at least $50M, two sequels will be made, so it'll be a trilogy. The Dark Judges will be in the third movie.

September tends to be a dumping ground for new releases, but I hope the film is a hit.
Previews, clips, and advanced word all seem to be strong.

I still like the Stallone Dredd. It's probably because I didn't read the comics.

Had to screencap this from a new 60-second TV spot -- Karl Urban making a perfect Dredd snarl. He freakin' looks perfect. :)
