In my case, it would be a cassette tape. First album/cassette tape I every owned was Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual. Boy did I not understand a lot of the lyrics til MUCH LATER!!!!

True Blue, I loved Live to Tell by Madonna on the album. Fanfreakingtastic! I loved her voice and the video!

The first one I ever got was "Destroyer" by Kiss. The first one I ever bought myself with money I actually earned was Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the moon". And

yes, it was actually a LP and bought at a record store!

Either Pyromania or Frontiers...I was 12.

Prior to the dawn of MTV, I played my mom's records & 45s...stuff like Poco (Crazy Love), Andy Gibb (Shadow Dancing), Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, Sam Cooke...

When MTV launched, I watched it and listened to the radio religiously until I started buying tapes in 1983...

In 1981 on cassette and was either "Meet the Beatles" or "Introducing the Beatles".

The first one I remember owning (not buying myself) was either "Glass Houses" by Billy Joel or "The Game" by Queen, the vinyl albums actually.

The first one I ever went down to the record store and bought myself was:

Roaring Silence, by Manfred Mann's Earthband. Was and still is a stunning album.

a lot of hand me downs from sisters and friends, mostly 45's and 8 tracks that no one wanted.
remeber making a lot of mix tapes off friends albums from my cheap hand me down 8 track player.


first 45s I remember was thunder island
remember it being only a quarter or cheaper.

first full cassette

Esacape, late 1981 I was 11.
took a road trip with my dad across the country,
hearing dont stop believeing, stone in love, open arms, whos crying now over and over again.

second was infinity, then departure...

after that I did tons of Columbia House, then BMG.



first CD of all things was toa greateest hits Shooting Star.

Was given...Doobie Bro's best of, I think I was like 4 years old or something

Van Halen on vinyl bought at Tower Records in 1978. I was 14. I had a bunch of 45's and of course all the "records" that came on the back of Honey Comb boxes like Bobby Sherman, Bay City Rollers, etc. Still can't believe to this day those "records" actually played at all. I can only imagine what they did to needle on the record player.

I Bought 1 album off TV advertising in the early 70's...
it had a picture of a golden apple for the album cover...
The 1 song I remember off of it. was Otis Redding's
Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.....It had many songs on
it from different artists ...
Anyone remember the album?

Time-Life has a compilation album series titled "AM Gold". Each album features about 15 songs from a particular span of years (The Early 60's, The Mid 60's, and so on...) all of which were, as the title implies, the biggest hits on AM radio at their respective times. Not sure if that's what you're talking about but it's what immediately came to mind.

True, but when you're a teenager and you see, 13 ALBUMS FOR JUST $0.01 the fact that you have to buy 8 more at regular club prices within 2 years is irrelevant! I know I "bought" a shitload of albums from Columbia House back in the day using various names and addresses of relatives. To this day I don't think I ever satisfied the terms of a single membership agreement. But hey, I was a teenager and there were a lot of things to spend my money on other than some faceless company.

Fast forward about 8 years...

When I went to buy my first house, guess what was found on my credit check? The single membership I had done in my real name. So, in order to satisfy the title company, I had to take care of it which ended up costing me something like $150.00.

I cannot imagine kids these days have the same excitement with there first "download"
as we did buying our first vinyl.......but maybe im just too old....Anyway it was "Boston"
which I also bought on cd way beforeI could afford a player to hear it!

First albums I ever owned were "Double Platinum" by Kiss and "Ace Frehley's" 78 solo record that my aunt bought me that year. A few years bought the Ace album on cd. Some great stuff on there.

I remember taking my record player and that album to school for show and tell. I played Black Dog. Afterwards my teacher asked, what happened Stephen?
You normally bring pet Rats, Rabbits, Dogs & Cats. I told her my Mom thought it was cool and told me I needed to share it.

Was there an album that represented rock-and-roll more than the Zoso album did at the time? I think not. Sure, there were other albums which were gigantic in terms of sales and airplay, but LZ IV was the quintessential rock album of it's day. I can't remember how many years in a row Stairway was rated the No.1 rock song in the various Top 100 and Top 50 countdowns on radio stations across the country - and I have to assume, the world.
