The actual anniversary of his death was last week but I thought I'd mention it anyway due to the fact that it's been 22 years since that tragic day. Twenty-Two freakin years!!! Holy shit does the time go fast! My wife and I rented a room to one of my good friends back then who was the BIGGEST SRV fan I've ever met to this day. When the news hit, I thought he was going to have a stroke or a nervous breakdown - seriously! He completely lost it!
Man oh man what a blues-master SRV was. Amazing guitarist and unbelievable amount of soul in his songs.

Still one of the greatest losses to the world of music. Blues man extrodinaire and one of the finest guitarists to ever pick up a six string. SRV is stilled missed.

My buddy had just picked me up at the San Francisco Int'l airport ten minutes before and we were headed towards NAS Alameda when they announced it on the radio. Freaked me out since I had just stepped off the plane from Japan when it happened. Interesting, I was just talking to a friend of mine and SRV was brought up in the conversation when we were determining one of the many times when I had returned to the US from Japan and South East Asia.

Not by me. Over rated and couldn't carry a tune if Liam blew one up his ass. :)

Please. Over-rated? Oh I get it .... you believe that Steve Clark was the riff master. That would explain it.

What?! While certainly not a great singer technically-speaking, he was a great blues singer...And that's aside from his astounding guitar playing.

 Overrated by whom? When some of the best guitarists in the business describe his abilities and his overall talent in superlatives and caps locks, it becomes clear just how incredibly good he was at his craft. Watch Richie Sambora play any lead and you'll see SRV's influence on him. I could go on but it would be a waste of time and energy.

Overrated..... yeah, you're probably right. He's just another hack like Petrucci, Satriani, Joe Bonamassa, Clapton, Buddy Guy, and the rest of those overrated wannabes.

My all time favorite player.

Riviera Paradise is one of the best chilling songs ever.....

Stevie did something with the blues that is incredibly hard to do... transcended genre boundaries. He "made" a new style that captivated people, and there are only a handful of guitarists that have actually done that.

Jeff Beck once said that Stevie was the only player he ever saw who never seemed to "run out" of things to play musically... that he was so attuned to his playing that it just flowed like a constant stream with no end.

I saw SRV with Jeff Beck on their co-headlining tour... amazing show... and Beck adored Stevie... and it showed on stage.
