DOKKEN - "Broken Bones"

The new album STOMPS!!! Big thanks to G.I. Jim for waking me up with a text at 6am to tell me about it on iTunes - otherwise I would have slumbered in total ignorance like a f***ing fool! This also enabled me to be among the very first to review the album, even before I heard it!

Don is in top form, voice 100% intact, and the melodies crunch! It's the best album of the year, and there's no reason to buy any other after this. Heck, I just got the new HARDLINE and EUROPE CDs the other day, and have no desire to even listen to them since I have this. I might just throw them away - they're taking up space.

I was pretty impressed with the video, too. Haven't seen a new Dokken video in forever, and it's pretty cool! Don looks like he's about 25 years old - I want some of whatever he's drinking!

Good God man. What have you been smokin? The loom of Don's hair piece?

Don in top voice?

Stomping?  (those 5 in a row slow plodders removed, perhaps you'd be right!)

That video? Don looks like a zombie.

Oh.....I GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!

You are having a laugh!! :D :D :D

Now I see!!

Just picked it up yesterday and I completely agree. This could have come out fresh off the heels of Back For The Attack! Well, almost, lol. Anyway... yeah, GREAT disc... and you reminded me that I need to pick up the new Europe and Hardline albums asap... I'm quite behind on my melodic rock these days, but a Dokken release is never missed, LOL.

My honest review is this... I'm enjoying the album, but not as much as I'd hoped so far. To me at least, there's kind of a samey-ness, or formulaic feel to many of the songs that has kept me from really getting into them. The melodies are all good - just not feeling very fresh to me, and I felt the melodies on LSA were much more creative.

On the other hand, it's still the only disc I'm listening to this week, and maybe it will grow more on me in time - hopefully so. At least the reviews are great. My favorite song so far is the title track, "Broken Bones". :)

I'm sure you're probably on top of this, but have you heard the samples from the T&N (Tooth And Nail) project?

I guess they decided not to go with the "Dump the Chump" album title idea...

Yeah, haven't decided what I think of it yet.

"Tonight" is definitely my favorite on the album, and quickly becoming one of my favorite Dokken tunes overall. Definitely sounding like it could have come from the 1987-90 time period, honestly. I mean, obviously with an older Don singing, lol.

Not bad, but can't say I'm into the vocals too much, and find the random special guests aspect distressing, as if they feel they can't stand on their own... I can't help but feel they'd have done better with someone like Doogie White or Mark Boals singing on the entire album...

mark was too busy covering Don's ass on the Dokken album.
