This happened not far from where I live. They found the guy's dentures and a few body parts. Apparently hogs can eat through about anything.

I read that. Poor guy, you can only hope he passed out and died quickly.

I hope he didn't suffer either. They can't do an autopsy on body parts. My guess is he might have had a heart attack or something and possibly fell in with them or could not get away. I don't know how hog feeding goes, but I doubt a person steps into the cage with them with food. That would be kind of like stepping into a den of bears with T-Bone steaks in your hand.

This type of thing actually happens a lot more often then some may think. I have relatives who've lived in Iowa and Nebraska and they tell me about this happening alot. The first time I heard it was when I was a little kid, my father was telling me he knew this old farmer who had passed out for some reason while out feeding his hogs and they took bites out of his ass and legs. He survived though unlike this unlucky guy in the link on this thread.

My husband grew up on a farm and he told me about stuff like this years ago. He also said that hogs are very dangerous and you don't want to fall down in their pen.

That's right. My father told me that the reason that old farmer survived his ordeal was because one of his son's was nearby and was able to scare the hogs off while he got his father out and brought him to get immediate medical attention. In the farming culture, most know that it's a good idea and practice not to be alone when your out with the hogs, just in case you get into a bad situation like passing out, knocked out, or getting knocked down by the hogs. The other person can frighten the hogs off and help you get out.

Hogs are like sharks when they smell blood...
