Here is the official trailer for the film due out next year.

Looks good, & I'm a big Depp fan, but couldn't they find a real native American to play Tonto?

He's wearing so much makeup who can tell what he is. If the movie came out 10 or even 20 years ago I think Lou Diamond Phillips would have been a good candidate for the part, even though he's Filipino/Irish.

But in regards to this specific character, movie and your question, who would you have suggested that is of Native American descent play this part and be able to as well as the movie demands?

Adam Beach comes to mind. Although technically he's from Canada.

Adam Beach was who first came to mind.
Gregory Cruz could pull it off too -and he even looks a little bit like Silverheels!

Wow. Johnny Depp acting flamboyantly weird again. Yawn. As a sidekick, he risks overshadowing the main character, and even gets top billing. Personally, I'm tired of his antics.

Yeah, the original Tonto wasn't weird like Depp is acting in this movie.

And what is with Helena Bonham Carter again? Are her and Depp a package deal now in films?  I am a Depp fan though and like most of his stuff. Blow being one of my faves.

From the preview posted, Tonto looks more like a quack voodoo doctor than what the original Tonto portrayed.
