Rush and Deep Purple are among the first-time nominees considered for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s Class of 2013.

Late Wednesday, the Cleveland-based Hall announced a list of 15 artists (from which 5 will be chosen) which represented a variety of musical genres.

"The definition of 'rock & roll' means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music," stated Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. "This year we again proudly put forth a fantastic array of groups and artists that span the entire genre that is 'rock & roll.'"

Artists are considered for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording.

Nominees for the 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

• Albert King
• Chic
• Deep Purple
• Donna Summer
• Heart
• Joan Jett & the Balckhearts
• Kraftwerk
• The Marvelettes
• The Meters
• N.W.A.
• Paul Butterfield Blues Band

The April 18, 2013 event is set for L.A.’s Nokia Theater, marking the first time the ceremony will be held in Los Angeles 1993.

A group of 600 artists, music historians and members of the industry will choose 2013's inductees; the results will be announced in mid-December.

Congratulations to the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees! To learn more about the nominees, click here, and watch and share the video below.

For the first time in its history, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will offer fans the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process. Beginning on Thursday, October 4 and continuing through December 5, the public can cast votes for who they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2013 inductees.

I'm just curious why RAP is included in the R&R HOF???? Makes no fucking sense to me.

Congrats to Rush and Deep Purple, though. 8)

Just did the poll:
Rush, Deep Purple and Heart are the top 3 by a wide margin. Even though they are the most deserving of this group, I will be pleasantly suprised if either of those bands get inducted.

I think Rush will make it. Deep Purple SHOULD definitely make it. I think Heart should be in as well but they're not as deserving, IMO.

Definitely a result of giving the PEOPLE some input and control over the process. All the bullshit and non-rock bands will be weeded out.

Yeah, and I just noted this in the details:

Pick up to five acts – the top five vote-getters will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the more than 600 ballots that determine the Class of 2013.

Sounds like a great way to thumb their nose at the fans with a drop-in-the-bucket vote. Totally unfair - you'll have tens of thousands of people voting against 600 music snobs (whoever they are), yet it's only counted as 1 out of 600. What an insult.

Journey will get in before styx, but neither one is getting in, in all reality.

Well the deal is Wenner is dead set against any heartland bands . No Styx , Journey , Kansas, Reo, but lets make sure NWa is in first. And the Moonglows.

I just had a thought... if these results held up until the actual vote, wouldn't it be emarrassing to them to not induct the top 3 acts as voted by fans???

NWA's getting in, I have a feeling. While I don't agree to having non-rock bands in the RRHOF, the place is a joke anyway. So does it really matter anyway? I wouldn't be surprised if Chic gets in as well.

I don't see how they consider the fans at all, and am tempted to believe this whole 'fan ballot' idea is patronizing. All total fan votes combined only become 1 out of 600 votes. Practically meaningless, and I hope it backfires on them.

Journey is from San Francisco. They aren't a heartland band.

I agree with you Rip..
If 2 out of the 3 top fan choices don't get voted in..
we should do a mass email protest & boycott RS & overload the website ..
The king rules from top of his hill & will never listen to the fans ...who buy
the music ....

I'm guessing that the fan vote will be about 2% and those dick holding weiners at the HOF will still do whatever they like. NWA and Public Enemy....WTF?
