50+ years ago the republicans were more powerful in American politics then they are today. If you think that's not accurate, look up the numbers from historical data. And now you understand why this country is in trouble today?

It was the same way with Sarah Palin 4 years ago, some of John McCain's votes were only because of her looks.

Just so I'm clear, this wasn't posted by me to call out a certain party. I loathe ALL politicians equally and find nothing remotely noble about ANY of them. I would have posted this if the same jackass was elucidating all the reasons she was voting for Obama!

Understood.
Out of curiosity though, I'd like to see exactly what those numbers were. Over the years as the numbers climb for the dems and go down for the reps, where has the country gone?

That's something I'd expect to read written by a valley girl from the 80's.

Im not sure where you get that ? the Democratic party was really the majority party from 1932-1994 in terms of Congressional control (give or take a few years), and certainly had a slight edge in registered voters. Nonetheless its kind of pointless as 50 + years ago parties were aligned differently. You had a a conservative wing of the Democratic party and a liberal wing, and you had the same thing in the Republican party. I dont think you can come up with any kind of conclusions based on party ID and strength. Focus on dominant ideas that underpin public policy though and you might arrive at an answer.
