23 Mile Freefall

Postby The Sushi Hunter » Wed Oct 10, 2012 3:18 am

Anyone following this story of the guy jumping from 23 miles up? Pretty wild stuff and not sure what happens if he were to hit supersonic speeds.

Here's an interesting segment on the first guy that did this.

Watched it live yesterday afternoon. What an awesome thing to be able to do. Standing on the edge of the capsule, looking down at earth 24 miles up in the

stratosphere, then taking the leap and falling at over 700 miles per hour. Fucking priceless.

That was pretty cool. But it takes money to do stuff like this. I tell you, if I won the lottery, I'd break this record by jumping from 24 miles up but the difference would be in a wingsuit and traveling across a few states before landing.

I thought it was fantastic, my wife thought I was nuts, I watched every minute of it.
Amazing he could stay conscience before stabilizing himself at that speed.
wonder if he got a check from Red Bull?

I probably would've passed out a few seconds after jumping and would've woken up at the pearly gates.

His system that he's wearing probably has an auto chute deployment mechanism in it that would pop the chute at a specific alttitude automatically in case he did pass out for whatever reason. So you'd be ok.

You're right...Instead I'd wake up in traction with dozens of broke bones and about a year's worth of PT ahead of me.
