Songs that instantly take you back...

Postby JRNYMAN » Sun Nov 11, 2012 11:09 am

...to your high school days - or - to those carefree days when nothing in the world mattered more than that time in your life, and life was good!

Was listening to Aldo Nova today and got nostalgic so I grabbed one of my playlists that has exactly those kinds of songs. Two that really take me back are:
Aldo Nova - Can't Stop Lovin' You

AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long

Cary Brothers - Ride (Tiesto Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUOl3LEOcrI

Takes me back to the summer of 2009 when I had more money than I knew what to do with. Going to Toronto for weekends for the nightclubs. The really fun 3.5 hour drive there on Friday nights and the dead tired drive home on Sunday evenings. The hottest girls of my life. Shopping trips with no regard whatsoever for price tags. Wearing the best clothes. The 4 of us still hang out regularly but life responsibilities and age have caught up with us a little bit. I did just spend $100 on vodka though...

Madonna and Babyface: Take a Bow. My brother T-Time, when I was real little, would take me places with him all the time and we would sing this song in the car. He taught me Babyface's part and it was my duty to act out my lines haha.

Hootie and the Blowfish: Hannah Jane. Man, it is virtually impossible to pick my favorite Hootie song. Hootie ranks up there as one of my all-time favorite bands. A big nod to my childhood, driving to Ocean City and as soon as we arrive, my dad would put the sun-roof down and pump his fist and blast Hootie. Good stuff.

I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Journey - Anytime/Feeling That Way

1st time I heard it was in the high school parking lot as I was pulling in for school... went and bought the album at lunch.

Frampton - Lines on my Face

The song that got me into Frampton Comes Alive.. after which I bought the 8 track (wore it out), LP (wore it out), and now have the remastered version of.. and it sounds even better..

Cheap Trick - Surrender

Always reminds me of my musician friends in high school... everyone loved Cheap Trick

Oh man! I completely forgot about Surrender!! When I was a sophomore in HS, there was this movie that me and my best friend watched about these teens who were rebels and at the end of it they decided to run away. Taking that as our inspiration, we decided we were going to jack a Trans Am from the Pontiac dealer in the town where we lived and run away. And of course, Surrender was our anthem! We never did steal the car but both of us did leave home for a while but eventually (like 3 days later...) went back. Such a great song that one!

I knew if I dangled a Canadian musician out there Deb would take the bait!  Agreed! Great tune!
As for "I Can't Hold Back".... Awesome! It gets a lot of airplay in my house. My wife is a huge Survivor fan and there are about 6 Survivor tunes that are in constant rotation in our main playlist.
