I found a buddy who had these in his "doomsday" bunker for about the last 25 years. We ate one in celebration of our finding one another again. We didn't die.

My favorites were (I can't believe I'm talking about a Hostess snack in the past tense....) HoHo's and Zingers - the raspberry/coconut ones. (Didn't Zingers used to be a Dolly Madison product? Hmm... ) Hard to believe an American institution such as this is going tits-up. I personally haven't partaken of a Hostess snack in years so it's not like I'm gonna be Jonesin' for a HoHo or anything like that. It's just that it's something that's been around and such a familiar sight for longer than I've been alive... It's just sorta sad, I guess. Who knows, maybe another entity will pick them up and continue the legacy. I feel bad for all the folks who lost their jobs - especially at this time of year.

And I have to agree with Drew... Twinkies ARE hideous!

How do you feel bad for people who willingly walked away from their jobs?

Fuckers are flat out stupid and/or lazy leeches.

It's not the workers fault. They wanted to cut their pay. They're the same people doing the same job and now they want them to take a pay cut of 8%. Fuck that. Not after Hostess' upper management took between 75 and 80 percent pay raises in 2011, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Wall Street Journal reported wrote: The company's four top executives agreed earlier this year to work for a salary of $1 until Hostess emerged from bankruptcy -- but only after enjoying raises of 75 to 80 percent in 2011, when the company had already hired restructuring lawyers.)

You can only shit on people for so long, and labor has been getting shit on for decades.

Rick, from the article you refrence...

Ken Hall, the Teamsters secretary-treasurer, said his union didn't doubt Hostess' claims after seeing its books.

"I think it's obvious there was no bluff," said Hall. "Our financial advisers had looked at their books, they had total access. We pushed them in negotiations to where we thought it was the absolute limit, that we would get the most for our members and [still] have a pathway back to prosperity for the company. The bakers' union disagreed with that."

"Frankly, I feel sick about what's going on here," Hall added. "It's a tragic day for 18,000 workers."

Five thousand of the Bakers Union held the other 13,000 over a barrel. Do you know that because of Union "rules" that Hostess couldn't even put Twinkies, Ding Dongs etc.. on the same truck as Wonder Bread for transport? How fucked up is that? As for the Executives, I see it as they took a 99.9% pay cut from whatever they made down to a $1 per year until bankruptcy was over. They asked the Bakers to take an 8% cut this year followed by 4% raises over the next few years. A $50,000 a year baker would have lost $4,000 down to $46,000 per year, now that baker is going on the dole for you and me to prop up.

That's what you would see. You blindly miss the nearly 80% pay raise the year before, AFTER they had sought legal counsel on bankruptcy.

It's easy to live on a dollar when you made 20 million the year before. Do you think those guys have to worry about how they're going to pay their light bill, or send their kids to college?

Corporate America keeps taking and taking and taking. People are going to start standing up against it. You can paint it however you want to, but what I see are people sick of getting fucked for years. More work, less pay and fewer benefits. The cost of living certainly isn't going down, healthcare continues to skyrocket, but we want to cut your wages. Fuck that.

I loved the powdered donettes for breakfast at work.

I loved Twinkies as a kid. I loved the fruit pies when I was a bit older but in school.

Suzy Q's used to be my favorite until the changed the recipe and made the cake taste like crapola.

Fact Finder wrote:Union Wins a 100% pay cut for all Hostess workers.

Rick the highest paid exec at Hostess made $2.5 Million not $20 Million. The Company was $866 million in debt with most of that OWED to Union Pension and Benefit packages while the Company had only $1 Billion in assets. The other problem here is one of the libs own making, to wit, Michelle Obama and her crusade to get Twinkies off the table in lieu of an apple or Orange.

The number one culprit behind Hostess’ demise was a decrease in demand for many of their products. Hostess has been struggling to make a profit for quite some time, and had already filed for bankruptcy once in 2004. The company has over 100,000 creditors, including the labor unions and pension funds which represent the employees, who will now undoubtedly lose out on some of their claims because of Hostess closing.

Some people sign the front of the check.
Some sign the back.
Enjoy the Obama economy that you voted for.

http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Hostess ... 329177.htm

Route Sales 4 Hostess Brands Salaries $48,000 (8% pay cut = $44,160)

Bakery Outlet Clerk - Hourly 2 Hostess Brands Salaries $16.88/hr (8% pay cut = $15.53/hr)

Linecatcher 1 Hostess Brands Salary $31k to $33k (8% pay cut = $29,440)

Director of Finance 1 Hostess Brands Salary $139k to $151k (8% pay cut avg = $133,400)

Inside Worker 1 Hostess Brands Salary $38k to $42k (8% pay cut avg = $36,800)

Mechanic 1 Hostess Brands Salary $43k to $46k (8% pay cut avg = $40,940)

The deal they were working on called for the 8% pay cut now, with 4% raises over the next few years after reorganizing.

The average median income in America is over $50,000. The numbers you posted, save for one, are below average.

Everyone wants to blame the unions. The magnifying glass is always pointed right at them. Nobody ever goes after the managers of a mismanaged business.

And I don't know how any of this has anything to do with Obama. And you should be thanking Michelle. What would you rather your kids eat?

Again, from WSJ
Creditors of Hostess Brands Inc. said in court papers the company may have "manipulated" its executives' salaries higher in the months leading up to its Chapter 11 filing, in what the creditors called a possible effort by Hostess to "sidestep" Bankruptcy Code compensation provisions.

The committee representing Hostess's unsecured creditors alleges that information it has gathered suggests "the possibility" that the company converted a chunk of its top executives' pay from performance-based bonuses to salary, "at least in part to sidestep" rules designed to ensure that companies in bankruptcy aren't enticing their employees to stay on board with the promise ...

So the unions are to blame because they don't want to take an 8% pay cut? What's wrong with a "shared sacrifice"? That was a credo that was being spewed around American Airlines, while nobody but labor was taking pay cuts. AA execs will take between 300 and 600 million in bonuses when they exit bankruptcy, if they exit as a standalone carrier, which, as you can understand, they're desperately trying to do. Yeah, the unions are the bad guys. We just keep getting kicked around.

Hostess chose to. They shut down operations, not the workers.

If you don't think the workers had a legitimate beef after being asked to take a pay cut while the upper echelon took an average of a 75% pay increase the previous year, then I will never understand your rationale.

Hostess's problems were brought on by poor decisions to adapt to the consumer's change in health consciousness.

And I don't want to hear that they offered to take $1.00 for salary the following year. That was just posturing for the media. The damage had been done.

I can't thank Andrew enough for creating this board. I don't know when or where I've had more fun, got in contact with better people, cried for the lost and discussed topics with such a wide variety of different mindsets. We don't get mad at people that don't agree with us, not for long anyway, like me and FF, at times. I think of him as a friend and would buy him a beer any time. That's when you know you have a family. When all the bullshit doesn't matter as much as the relationships.

Keystone Light

Same beer as Coors Light

$87 vs. $115 a keg

$14.99 vs. $21.99 a 30 pack
