Godaddy.com's Holiday Party 2012

Postby JRNYMAN » Wed Dec 12, 2012 8:17 pm

Not sure if local domain name registrar Godaddy.com makes the news as much in the rest of the country as it does here but if you've never heard/read about their employee holiday parties, which have become legendary, it's enough to almost make you want to become physically ill. The owner, Bob Parsons, is a womanizer, a cheat, and a drunk but he donates sooooooo much fucking money every year to various charities - this year 60 of 'em - as well as $2Mil to the "Semper Fi" fund that everyone in the media downplays the constant stories about the shit he does. I've known several people who have worked at Godaddy.com and even the males were appalled and disgusted at the sexual discrimination and gross "guy humor" that goes on every day by the supervisors all the way up to Parsons himself. And if you complain, you're fired instantly.

At the party he gives away $1Mil to employees via raffles and other drawings. As for the entertainment, this year it was The B-52's and Gangnam Style creator, Psy. The food and drinks are over-the-top lavish and to make sure the entire event is the "talk of the town" he rents out Chase Field - home of the Diamondbacks. It's a huge event and I'm sure it's a ton of fun but it's the sickening amount of money he flaunts for his parties that are ridiculous. And where does the money come from? Domain Name Registration fees. He literally charges for air. People go to the website, search for a domain name they want and if it's not in use, they buy it. Then in 1 or 2 years whichever they choose, they do it again. and again. And Parsons doesn't have to pay a dime for the domains in the first place. Who made him God of the Internet?

Here's the story about the party:

  Yup, they're ALWAYS hiring for Tech Support Level 1. Starts at $12.00 hr. for the first 90 days then increases to I think $14. All benefits completely company paid and start the day you do. Bunch of other stuff included as well. 3 wks. vacation after 1 year, 2 weeks accrued sick/personal time per year - which carries over year to year.

I always had good customer service from them - so something he's doing is right...I also had a friend who worked there who went onto say it was a really difficult place to work.

I'm not surprised since their commercials seem to reflect the attitude of the company.

Oh no question they're the cheapest. I remember back in 2002-03 when I worked for 2Wire, Godaddy was selling names for $.99 for a year. Everybody I knew in the tech sector was buying names like crazy just hoping you'd make up a name that sometime in the future would end up being the name some tech company decided to call themselves and suddenly you were in negotiations for the rights to the domain. We had big dreams back then.
