Hey guys,

I know I'm more of a lurker these days, but I wanted to spread the word. I'm planning a 2013 celebrity dead pool.

Very simple: you pick 10 alive celebrities, submit the list via email, submit a $10 entry fee via paypal....and if you pick the most dead celebrities as of Dec 31, 2013....you win the pot.
For those of you who know me on facebook, you'll have seen my post. For those that aren't, I tried to post the contest rules with a public flag....hopefully, you guys can see it:

I hope Lindsey Lohan straightens herself out. I don't wish death on anybody because once you are dead your fate is decided and it is too late.

Not wishing death on her... she just seems a very obvious and likely candidate.

No, I know you are not. I understand the thought process. People betting or not betting that someone will be the next to die doesn't make any difference anyway as we are're not in control of the matter. People have free will mind you and can certainly hasten the prcess, but ultimately we all have a set exp date in this life.. You can do everything right and get taken out faster than STEVE PERRY can make up his mind about whether to finish those fifty songs or not. HURRY UP STEVE!! :(

Were is the "Like" button? You are absolutely correct. Not knocking you guys if you're going to partake, but this is very wrong to me. You're going to be on the "naughty" list for sure.

Jim, first....I'm already on the naughty list....so, that aint gonna stop me.

But seriously, None of us have any control over someone's death. Trying to guess when it happens, and place bets on it isn't wrong. We're merely picking the most significant event in the timeline of celebrities and placing a wager over it.

When a celebrity dies, it is generally the most significant event, historically, in that celebrity's arc of fame. Think about it. Prior to their deaths, I could've given two shits about Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, or Amy Winehouse. The *only* relevance any of them has to me is that Whacko Jacko and EVH played together on a song. That's it. I just never liked the music or how they contributed to society. Period. So while alive, they held zero relevance to me. Guess what....there are millions more just like me, that just didn't care about those people. They have their fans, some here, some elsewhere....but at the end of the day, a celebrity's allure is finite. very finite!

Then they die. Boom....the whole world starts mourning....they dominate the news channels for days....they become figuratively immortal for their final 15 minutes of fame. The finite amount of Whacko Jacko fans or Whitney Houston fans immediately gets trippled, quadrupled, 10x, 100x. You name it. And for those brief 15 minutes, these celebrities burn out like the stars they once were...in true super nova fashion.

All we're doing is wagering when these celebrities will super-nova. That's it.

Sure it's a tad morbid....

....but no more so than buying stock of of a company after it crashed on the stock market where a former share holder may have committed suicide

....no more so than wining at a blackjack table in Vegas where the guy across the table just wagered and lost his daughters college fund

....no more so than buying a rock star's album, and vis-a-vis supporting said rock star, who engages in defacto statuary rape every night on tour.

Life has it's share of morbidities. All we're doing is finding a way to enjoy it!
