Don't know how many Michael W. Smith fans are here, but I just noticed something today. First off, I LOVE Michael's music and sometimes when I feel down, I pop in one of his albums for a little pick me up. Today I listened to a couple of his songs and started listening to "Place In This World". I've heard the song a hundred times easily, but never really noticed how much it sounds like a Chicago tune. Towards the 2nd half of the song (right after the solo), I swear you could replace his vocals with Cetera or Scheff's and you'd be hearing 80's Chicago. He even has the subtle horns and strings in the background.

Anyways, sorry for blabbing on here, but I just found it a nice surprise. Here it is if you want to check it out. One of the best songs ever written IMO.

Now that you mention it, it does sound like something that could've been on Chicago 18.

Yep it is. He sure doesn't sound like THAT anymore. Scheff that is. Michael is one of those few artists that I think has improved with age. His voice sounds stronger and his songwriting has matured and is still amazing. I must have 8 or 9 of his albums. Maybe even more. I need to go check and see if he has anything new in the last year or so. He puts out so many albums that it's hard to keep up with them!

Rick... THAT song was religious! He has 10 or more albums and has written some amazing songs over the years. His style has changed a lot over the years to stay up with modern (well semi anyways) music. I'm going to send you some stuff to check out tomorrow. And you don't have to be a religious fanatic to like a lot of his stuff either.

That sounds familiar for some reason. Didn't it get a heavy rotation on the adult contemporary stations for a bit when it came out? I never knew who the artist was or even what the song's title was.

After listening to it again, I do remember hearing that song a lot back in the early 90's and I also remember thinking it was Richard Marx for some reason.
I was reading some of his bio and was amazed to learn he's a multi-Grammy winner and his latest album is his TWENTY-THIRD! Damn! He's been a busy boy!

He was doing Christian music well before that song and even on that album and afterwards.

Yeah, they were trying to cross him over into the mainstream the way Amy Grant had at the time...good song.
