With 3 years left, what would you do?

Huell Howser passed away this weekend. Most of you probably never heard of him but those from Cali may have an idea who he was. Apparently, he became sick three years ago but no one outside of his manager and doctor knew it. He continued to work up until Nov when he retired quietly. During that time, he donated all of his books and video shows to Chapman university. He also gave the school his Volcano house out in Valley Springs. Having no next of kin, I guess he didn't feel the need to tell anyone he was ill and went out without any fanfare.

If you knew you were on the clock, say with pancreatic cancer or something like that which puts you on your own death watch, what would you do with the time left to you?

Travel around the world? Party like it's the end of the world? Quit your job? Get married/divorced? Blow your brains out?

That's like a 3 year bucket list. I have no such thing. I would spend it with everyone I care about. I was blessed with a great family, and they would get every bit of my time.

Thanks for posting that. I think I would continue to go about business as usual until I couldn't. The pride in me, as already demonstrated, as my family knows, is that I will work through sickness and pain, hiding it all the way. I'm pretty stubborn like that.

First and foremost, welcome back sir! Where the Hell ya been?!
Ditto what Rick said. I'd spend as much time as my kids would allow with them. I'd also do everything I could to ensure the last days of my sickness, and ultimately, my death, wouldn't leave any kind of financial burden whatsoever on my family. As for the bucket list aspect of it, I'd definitely like to travel - starting with the US. There are some incredible places right I'd like to visit and experience. The leaves changing colors in New England in the fall, Alaska, The Great Lakes, Sequoia and Redwood Natl. Forests...

I'm not sick or anything, just curious. I've already traveled around the world. I spend a lot of time with my family already. I think I might still travel but more as a food and drink Connoisseur. Just eating and drinking until my malady or death stopped me. Or I might pull up stakes and try physically tracing my roots back as far as I could go (Yorkshire, England so far) and see where that would take me.

His Christmas visit to the Cook islands is my favorite. He fit right in with those Islanders with his down home charm.

He had a cameo in the last Winnie The Pooh film. It came after the credits and was hilarious.

I'd do the same thing I do now. Spend as much time with my loved ones and never dare leave the side of the ones closest to me. Every second away would be wasting time you don't have. I try to live life to the fullest. We may not be on a 3 day clock, but we are on a clock nonetheless. I don't need outlandish adventures and bucket lists. Give me moms, dads, brothers and fiance' and I'll be the happiest man on the planet.
