Alabama plane crash possible teen joyride; 3 dead

JASPER, Alabama — Investigators believe a small plane that crashed in the Alabama woods was taken without permission for a joyride by three teenagers who died in the wreck Tuesday night.

Are you freakin' kidding me?!?! How much of a combination of stupidity and self-confidence does someone have to have to think stealing a plane and taking it for a ride is a good idea? Even if you WERE a trained pilot, stealing a plane and leaving the ground without notification and authorization is a federal offense! And it's not like if you were involved in a Chase" that you might stand a chase of "out-running" the authorities...
When I was a teenager prior to being of age to drive legally, I used to take my parents' cars out joyriding all the time. Got caught sometimes too. But, never once was there a concern about how or where I was going to land!!
Kids today.... <-- And as much as that sounds just like our parents, it's still relevant.

I've not read the article yet, but.....flying something like a Cessna 152 or similar isn't all that difficult as you'd expect, especially if the kids had some type of hands on flying experiences such as a relative, friend or parent who let them take the controlls while out flying. Now to coordinate cross country flights where there is variables in weather and terrain, that's more challenging. A number of years ago, I wanted a challenge so I took up flying lessons. Surprisingly, it's not all that difficult, but a pretty expensive hobby.

Larry (the "H" of DHL) didn't' even have a pilot's license and he was always flying to and from Saipan, well up until he flew into a storm in the Pacific in '95 and didn't have proper instruments for that type of flying, which ended in crash.

Just read the article. The person(s) who wrote that article are a little lame by saying the plane has two propellers. It's actually a twin engine plane. Those kids had balls of steel to try and take one of those out without proper experience. No one in their right mind would take one of those out without experience. This tells me one or more of them had some type of hands on exerience flying aircraft, because without a stitch of experience, no one would walk up to one of those and decide to take it up. No fucking way!
