I finally plonked down the money to buy Windows 7. While I know I'm behind, this is just sweeeeet! Are you still using XP?

I'm assuming this is open for public discussion even though you seem to be addressing one person only?

My opinion is that Windows 7 is awesome. Almost no driver installations beyond what windows gives you. I was only missing a good video driver and after the first big update, windows even found that one for me.

I've since upgraded to Windows 8 on my desktop but my Lenovo Thinkpad still has Windows 7 and absolutely no issues at all.

Yes, of course it's open. lol How do you like Windows 8 compared to 7? I've been with XP all this time, and I have had zero complaints about XP, but I got 7 at a great price, and I had test driven it, I guess you would say, so I knew I liked it, but I just always had other things to spend the money on.

The reason I addressed this to Dave is because we're like minded techno geeks and we've discussed this stuff before.

Stay away from windows 8 unless you have a touch screen.

Windows 8 is a fucking ABOMINATION. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER figure out what Microsoft was thinking. The absolute, worst OS EVER created! It's almost as if nobody actually tested it's functionality before pushing it out to the masses.

I'm on Windows 7 and have no desire whatsoever to try Windows 8.

Same here, i do have a laptop that i keep at xp only because sometimes i will get a game that wont work on 7 and when i put it on the laptop it works(otherwise i would change the laptop to 7). 7 has given me the least troubles out of all the other OS's , i havent heard anything good about 8 at all.

No problems with Windows 8 but I do understand the issues others might be encountering. It's faster than Win7 but other than the touch features, not much difference once you hit the desktop. Win 7 should still be good enough for 90% of the folks out there. I like to tinker with stuff so Win 8 is perfect for me.

This almost sounds worse than that disaster of an OS, Windows ME.

If you do get a new PC with Windows 8, or have to upgrade for whatever reason there is a way to make it look closer to Win7. A program called Start8. It costs 5 bucks and will let you boot right to the desktop. You can turn off all of the touch features if you want too. It puts a start menu in the corner just like Win7.
You get the speed of Win8 with the familiarity of Win7.

I don't know about that - yet... Me and Vista were worthless and very frustrating! And Win7 Starter is not far behind them! If anyone wase unfortunate enough to have purchased a device with Win7 Starter installed, I pity them.
Yup, Win7 is the cat's tits! From a tech's standpoint it can be a bit of a pain in the ass when it comes to getting some older devices to work. In most, but not all cases, if there isn't a Win7 driver available from the mfr., the Vista driver will suffice.
Win7 has a very handy feature, XP Mode, that can be a serious asset when needing to run a program that isn't stable in Win7. Its ability to recover from and repair most errors is a welcome feature as well. I beta tested it and fell in love with it from the very first install. The best part IMHO, is how well it manages its resources and memory. You can do WAAAAAAAY more things simultaneously than you ever could in any of the previous OS's. Then there's the 64bit version that opens the door for adding some serious RAM. With 64 bit addresses, the operating system could theoretically use up to 16.8 million terabytes of RAM. Obviously we're a ways off from seeing anything close to those kinds of RAM sticks but I did work on a kid's gaming system this week that had 64GB of RAM and was overclocked to almost 5 GHz. Pretty impressive setup.

I've always been afraid to overclock. What was the processors original clock speed?

I played around with Windows 8 at Best Buy and I didn't really care for it either, it doesn't seem to be very user friendly. I'm sticking with 7 for as long as possible.

My older brother came down and I got him a 15 pack of those, as he's a Bud Light drinker, but it was the aluminum bottles. I've been hitting the 16oz aluminum bottles of Coors Light. Those things are awesome, but a bit overpriced. I've been on vacation this week and have been keeping the fridge nicely stocked.

I was at a surprise b-day party Saturday night and when it was over a buddy of mine said "grab some beer" so I got a case of Bud Light and a case of Michelob Ultra 64 (UGH). The Michelob is sitting in the garage waiting for desperate times.

You can use the Michelob for this recipe.

Summer Beer - Add 1 large can of frozen Limeaid to a pitcher then fill the can with Vodka & dump it in. Pour in 4 Michelob Ultras. Add ice and then throw in some oranges slices and stir it up well.

I've had this stuff. It's deceptively innocent tasting and will knock you on your ass.

I have Windows 7 on my PC, but have a dual boot system with Windows 8 & 7 on my laptop.

Windows 8 is ok, the apps work ok and the system is much faster than Windows 7. It takes a little getting used to, but it's not as bad as some make it out. I guess it depends on what you use it for.
