My generation pretty much is crappish as far as music goes...
It is never made more apparent than at an event such as the Grammys.
Taylor Swift opened with yet another break up song (word to the wise to all famous men...don't get involved with her unless you want a break up song 2 weeks later)
And it just makes me laugh to think the most exciting thing that happened that night was Prince presenting an award. He spoke 3 sentences, and people were going crazy.
I actually paused it and watched that moment again lmao.

So, what artist of today do you think has potential?
I would have to say Bruno Mars. When Timberlake is copying your style in his "comeback", you have to have talent.

Bruno Mars could be relevant if he made music of relevance..

Pop music has gone from being irreverent yet relevant, to reverent and accepted.. that's why the music scene today is so pc and sterile...

Rock and R&B are two genres that are almost extinct right now.

Bruno Mars has a lot of great moments on the new CD, but I can't quite get into it. Definitely not like the first one. It's almost like he is trying to hard not to be one thing. I think that's cool in many ways, but an album still has to gel. I think it's better to show style changes from album to album, not necessarily all within one album.

Vintage Trouble: the lead singer is Ty Talyor, you might remember him as a contestant on the show Rockstar:INXS.

Eli Reed: After graduating from Brookline [Massachusetts] High School in 2002 he moved to Mississippi where ntroduced himself to the music community there, playing frequently at local clubs and even ending up under the tutelage of drummer Sam Carr. He moved north to attend the University of Chicago. In Chicago Reed was able to meet soul singer Mitty Collier, who had had a hit in 1964 with the single "I Had a Talk with My Man".

The Temperance Movement: Although they sound American, they're British.

Halestorm and maybe The Darkness. Other than that, today's music is shallow and laughable at best.

Couldn't agree more, my thoughts as well. Love his music, but not as into this album as the last one. There is about 3 songs that I absolutely love on it though. Saying that, I still think he is one talented little bugger! And I love the old school R&B vibe he's bringing back. Haha and his performances are always fun to watch, even his band gets right into it, dancing around having fun as they play........they gel very well. Easily my fave pick.

None of them. Zero.
No one has the lasting power, nor the potential to roll out 10 albums over 20 years.

The next generation will be the ones that bring artistic merit back. Not the current crop of fame whores.

The one with the most hope is Halestorm.

Plenty of hard rock/rock talent out there, but as far as what is considered pop/mainstream, there's a sad void.

Pink still kicks ass, Katy Perry does well, Kelly Clarkson has my respect...matchbox twenty have a small legacy and Rob Thomas is a brilliant writer.

I still think it was a major mistake in the long run for Rob Thomas to start releasing solo albums. Matchbox Twenty was doing pretty good when they released More Than You Think You Are (2003ish). Then, Rob Thomas starts releasing solo albums and it takes almost 10 years for the next MB20 album. Instead of MB20 playing 10-15k seat venues and Rob Thomas playing 5-10k venues, a couple more MB20 albums to keep the momentum going and now Matchbox would be in the 20-25k seat venues headlining with a considerable back catalog and a lot more fans. The issue is being able to sustain that career 15-20 years from now, not right now.

So many people just don't get it.
