It was almost bearable prior to this season. Who in the fuck can stand Nicki Minaj's voice? It's like nails on a chaulk board!
She's not a good person and how she holds this seat is beyond me, but they have jumped the shark! Ack!!!!
I'm in the background and my wife is watching this shit. My headphones are going on and I'm heading to some good tunes.

Well, if their all time low ratings are any indication, it's probably is close to ending. Good riddance!

I've been asking for this since I saw the promo for the first season. THANK YOU, JESUS.

The only thing I ever watched was the auditions so, I could see the really bad singers and goofballs.

I'm done with Idol. Complete shit judges, and I have zero interest this season. Haven't watched 1 episode, and won't.

I hated it when it was called "Star Search" back in the 80's.

I figured it would so I never bothered to watch even just one episode. The only clips I ever saw of the show that I can think of was in the news and is when William Hung did the "She Bangs" shit. and that really old lady surprised that prick judge Simon with her singing abilities. Other than that, I've not seen anything else. Never seen an episode of Survivor or DWTS either. If any of that crap was on my tv, I'd be determined to throw on a steal toed boot, three sizes bigger than what my size aready is just to make it that much more extra special, and send it clean through the face of the tv, hoping that the fucks on the other end feel it. Sure I hate to lose a fairly new 65" Plasma flatscreen, but sometimes it's just part of the duty.

You mean Susan Boyle? On the British version of X-Factor? If so, wow... a 48 year old woman is now considered "a really old lady."

I had zero interest in watching this year thanks to the emphasis on the Maria / Minaj drama, and honestly since the departure of Tyler, and JLo AND the backing band (that went to Jay Leno) it's really just a shame what they did to the show. and I haven't seen anything from friends or anyone recommend anything coming from this year's show...
Wife is watching "The Voice" and enjoys it, but I dunno, I never liked that show much - but that seems to be a little more tolerable from what I've seen coming out of AI

The "Boyle" is only 48? I would have never guessed, looks more like 58 and on a very good day after the makeover cd cover photoshoot. Yeah, 48 isn't that old, but damn, she looked like she had a whole lot more miles on the clock and I'm talking rode hard and put away wet hard miles. What did she do for a living, heat lamp sun tan oil tester and/or cigarette and cigar smoke tester?

A complete waste of airspace. I can name the 'decent' singers on one hand. But as far as singing the music I listen to, I ended up purchasing only one cd fronted by any of the contestants (We Are the Fallen, fronted by Carly Smithson.)
I've purchased more music from the foreign equivalents of Idol, mostly because they were more likely to have rockers. (such as Finnish Idols, one album from Ari Koivunen, and two albums from Agnes Philava. More artists like these may have captivated my interest more.)

Back during the 80's when I was involved in a band singing, writing original music, yada yada yada, I invisioned a tv program showing various singers performing. I got the idea during the years I spent in the Philippines. I found it really exciting and fun on the nights I wasn't doing music, to just watch various bands perform live and in the Philippines it was like 100 different bands performing live within a few miles radius at any given day of the week. Many of us would bar hop from one place to the other during the late afternoon, evening and at night just watching different bands performing. At that time I thought it would have been a great idea to have such a show.
I think it would be a better show if it were complete live bands performing original songs only. Solo artists was not what I invisioned. Also from what co-workers talk about, it sounds like 95% of the show is based on worthless drama. Much of the focus of the show is shifted to what the "judges" think and how they react. I nevr invisioned background drama and judges being the primary focus of such a show. The only two clips that I recall ever seeing of the shows: William Hung "She Bangs" and The Boyle, the looks on the judges faces had just as much, if not more, air time then the performance itself. I guess that's what this show is all about, tune in to see how the judges and audience react. For this reason, they add in tons of drama to make it interesting. That's not the kind of entertainment I like.

If the show was based on bands that have been busting their asses to get fame (like ANY band in the 70's...even the hair metal bands of the 80's), then I'd be inclined to watch it. This glorified karaoke, with people who's only talent is being able to hit a note is, and always HAS been fucking ridiculous bullshit.
I like the Battle Of The Bands stuff. I used to judge them when I was a bartender. Always fun, and there was some major talent around here. And there were obviously the shit bands, but I was drunk enough to where I could listen to them, then berate them for sucking.

Maybe that's the American Idol judge's secret to being a judge on the show.

If I had to deal with those hacks, I'd always have a glass of crack handy.

Anyone remember that show called "Number One Hit", with Jewel as a judge/host? Not to say that it was great by any means, but I actually liked the premise since the contestants were required to write music and lyrics. They weren't judged so much on how well they performed the songs, since the emphasis was on their songwriting abilities. With a bit of a revamp, it could have been good, but I don't think it attracted much of an audience since it lacked the glamor-factor of shows like American Idol.
